Non-Grabby Rhinestone Chain - Is There Such a Thing?
So I love the look of rhinestone chain on costumes, but I don't love how many types of rhinestone chain have "grabby" prongs that stick to your veils and wings. Are there any brands of rhinestone chain that don't pose this problem? Any precautions I can take to prevent the dreaded "klingons?"
Talk to me!

Re: Non-Grabby Rhinestone Chain - Is There Such a Thing?
There have been threads about this before since nearly all of us have suffered from this at some point. There is a type of rhinestone chain that comes in a plastic setting that is stretchy that doesn't use prongs, but I don't think it's very pretty. I think it comes in white or black plastic. Other people have advocated using a clear nail polish over the chain to help reduce the "Klingons". I don't think there is any brand that is better than another. I buy most of my rhineston chain on Ebay from a guy in China that sells it by the spool cheap. I've also purchased the stuff from Dreamtime Creations that is more expensive, but in a side by side comparison, there is very little difference between the expensive stuff and the cheap stuff (IMO).

You're right. I've tried the expensive stuff and the cheap stuff and even the Swarovski chain got stuck in my veils. Yuck.
Curiously, I have a Legend costume that is covered in rhinestone chain, and I have never had an issue with it. This seems to be the exception, though!
I may have to try the clear nail polish trick, or otherwise, figure out a substitute for rhinestone chain.

Shahla,
I'm interested in learning the name of the supplier you recommend for rhinestone chain.

This is the place where I buy it by the spool on Ebay. I think it comes in a 10 yard spool. I've purchased a number of them from him over the past few years and have always been satisfied.

Bezel settings will be less grabby than prongs (e.g., Light Siam Bezel Set 3mm Rhinestone Chain, also that plastic chain mentioned upthread), but as long as the settings can separate from the surface of the fabric and/or there are gaps in between the stones, there will be room for a veil to sneak in and get caught. The non-prong settings may not catch in the sense of snagging the fabric as much, though.
