Re: Brazilians Costume Designers
Hi!
In my opinion the best brazilian designers:
Tonny & Robby
Cristianno
They are very professional and most of the pro in Brazil and the ones dancing in the middle eastern buy from them
then,
Rejane Mesquita
Atelier Simone Galassi
The only thing is that hey are used to make costume FOR BRAZILIAN BODY TYPE, we have more hips... and small bra cups...
If you ever buy a used or a new one, make sure to ask for bra measurements. Usually brazilians are A,B, small C (if luck..)

Re: Brazilians Costume Designers
I love Brazilian costumes! I have a turquoise Tony and Robby that I bought here on Bhuz last year (the one on my avatar), very comfortable and the audience always love it!
Has anyone ordered costumes from Ju Marconato? I really like her designs (and her dancing!).

Re: Brazilians Costume Designers
I had a Ju Marconato costume (it's the one on my avatar), but I've already sold it off on Bhuz.
I ordered it when she was first opening up online sales, and I think things were disorganized back then, so I got a completely wrong color, and the belt was the wrong size and without a hook. Also, it came months late. I was very disappointed, but ended up giving the costume a chance and I actually really liked it. It would have been better if it was the color I had asked for, but it would have been too much of a hassle to complain and try to get what I wanted. The quality of her work is great.
Hopefully by now they've settled whatever was going on with their online ordering system. I have a friend who has ordered at least 2 costumes from her and hasn't been disappointed, but then again she got to deal with her in person. I plan on getting another costume from her again in the future, but not yet, and if I do I will make sure to do it at the same time said friend gets a costume from her so that I have someone to place the order and follow up in person if need be. I'd do it myself but I only go to Brazil once a year.
Ju's was the only Brazilian costume I owned, surprisingly. Some of Simone Galassi's stuff looks really interesting and I got to see the workmanship in person last month when I took a class at Shangrila (Lulu Sabongi's school). I plan on getting something from there in the future.

Re: Brazilians Costume Designers
There is also Yasmin Hassanein. My friend got a costume from her when her husband was in Brazil and it looks fantastic. Some of us want to order from her soon, you can find her on facebook or just google her website
I've wanted to order from Simone Galassi for forever, but never get a response..I've tried Facebook and e-mails several times, even entered all my measurements on the website because they are supposed to get back to you then, and nothing. Very disappointed in the lack of communication. They spoke English just fine, and I could always communicate in Portuguese if needed, but they just don't respond!

Re: Brazilians Costume Designers
That's odd. The one time I contacted them, to ask if they ship internationally, she responded to me right away.
But I am not surprised. Each and every experience I've had with Brazilian belly dancers (and designer) has been a nightmare, aside from this one with Simone Galassi, and that's probably because that was my only interaction with her.
They take forever to reply to emails, if they reply at all. I send multiple emails before getting a response, and then they claim they never received the original email. Each response contains answers to only a few of my questions, so I have to ask the rest again and wait again for more responses. When I go to Brazil, I have to start contacting teachers at least two months ahead of time just so I can have a class scheduled by the time of my trip, because otherwise it would be too late and they'd only reply after I'm back. And the times I've had these classes cancelled on me at the last minute!!!
I put up with it because they are wonderful dancers and wonderful teachers, and I always learn so much in class. They are also very nice and polite people once they do get back to you.
I've had issues with the timeliness of certain Americans, too (come on, people, I am a customer and I would like to PAY you. It's not like I'm asking for a favor. Do you not want money and business?), but it always seems more prominent when I am dealing with Brazilians.
Anyways, that was my rant for the day.

Re: Brazilians Costume Designers
yikes. good to know!
Yasmin has been incredibly prompt and responsive. I haven't ordered from her yet but so far, her communication is great. Same with when I spoke to Cristiano through email as well. Prompt and clear.
I understand people are busy but sometimes it's frustrating...I haven't had this happen with teachers per se, but with workshop sponsors and designers for sure..it's like, "I have money for you!! I want to give it to you!! but you don't answer anything!"...frustrating for sure. I usually give plenty of time for response and then may follow up with another email if I haven't heard from them for a week or two, but sometimes even that doesn't help. I especially don't get it with festival sponsors, how you can plan and advertise for an event a year in advance but not yet know where the workshops will be held, where participants should stay, etc. and the festival being only a couple of months away..
but I suppose that's a rant for another day as well lol

Re: Brazilians Costume Designers
I'm from Sao Paulo too!
Unfortunaetly find a bra with cup sizes is not easy here! (Hope, Liz, Loungerie for example)
That's how I explain to my friends:
The regular cup in brasil is B. if you buy a 44 in Brasil, is a 44 B.
If your bra fits your torso but the cup is larger than you breast, you're a A cup. If the cup is tight than your cup size is C or more.
It's really helpfull and I don't know why it's not popular here!

Re: Brazilians Costume Designers
please post more pics i want to drool...
I was just in a brazilian bikini shop..I walked in because they had the brazilian carnival/bellydance style costumes in the windows. Fell in love and purchased one that is green and turns purple.
But yes I noticed the sizing and the assistant was quick to point it out..a lot of the 'large' belts were 38 to 40 inches but the bras were B or C cup. The belt could easily be pinned tighter (I still use big diaper pins) ..I was able to fit into a large C cup but my boobs are pushed up a bit so I plan on buying some peacock feathers and making the cups a bit wider at the top with the appearance of feathers :)
I still LOVE LOVE LOVE the colorful chunky plastic beaded costumes with fish sequins that change color. For $200 it's hard to pass up..esp since I didn't have to pay shipping. Many of the akai color schemes can be dated back to the neckelmanns era because I made skirts and veils that would go with their wild colors.
I'm in love with the Russian costumes coming out but for 200 bucks and I can make a silk skirt that matches (and veils) it's very affordable and am-cab looking
