Re: What are you working on in September???
Trimmed and hemmed two circle skirts tonight.
a little upset the one I was really excited about frayed quiet a bit and I lost length- its now officially and "over' skirt. :( But its cool looking- little bit of a funkie print and I demo-ed the fishing line for the scalloped edge. Its way more fun than I thought!!!

Re: What are you working on in September???
I needed a break from beading.....so I made myself a leather purse out of an old leather skirt I had made ages ago. The skirt was cool but the leather is so stiff that sitting down was not really possible.....oh well now it is a purse.
The purse is about 9"x12" I might add more deco stuff to the front, don't know yet.
OK enough of this back to the "RedRing".

Re: What are you working on in September???
I'm working on a dark forest green project I've purchased on Bhuzz a very loooooong time ago.
The bra cups and straps were already done, so I just had to assemble them. I add a piece of ruche fabric.
I also made several medallions to decorate the bra as well as the straight skirt. Few swags of pearls and beads, and hot fix stones will follow.
I shouldn't take to long and I think it's going to be an easy to wear and very confy costume!

Re: What are you working on in September???
I had actually never done this- it was my first experiment... I'm sure more people can chime in with more experiance than I.
I didn't pin- I never pin ciffon anyway but I just held it down as I zig zagged the edge which kind of rolls it.
I do two passes and it gives it kind of a rolled edge. I did it two ways... the back panels I did the fish line first and then did a second pass with the zig zag- the front I did one pass zig zag then put the fishing line down and zig zagged over it.
I don't think it really made a HUGE difference- I think it retains a little more structure when you do it as the final pass instead of doing it first and rolling inside the second hem- if that makes sense.
Side note- I was frustrated- my short was skirt already due to fray- but the curl will take up a little lenght so go ahead and leave it a a quarter to half inch longer than you normally would when you trim.
Just give it a try- if you hate it it pulls right out LOL :) I did buy a heavier weight line to make it more manageable.

next... I finished this part of my belt- I have two layers of swag going on the belt- and one layer is in the middle- so this goes at the top of the belt to cover the swag in the middle of the belt. I had to order more crystals- and they came last night- so I finished it up this morning I was really not in love with it- till I got that middle center crystal in and beaded- seemed to really tie it all together.

here's the turkish vest! I got the pattern thursday, and started it last night, and just finished it. (I would have finished it last night, but my house mates interrupted me with burgers and beer.....)
it looks a little mishapen like this, but when its on, it fits like a glove!

Re: What are you working on in September???
I just started working on a black and pink bedlah with criss-crossy straps on the waist and the neckline. I've already made 3 mermaid skirts, red, white, and hot pink. I'm so productive this month (so far)!!

Re: What are you working on in September???
I've made some more progress on my confetti costume. The belt is done except for lining and hooks. The bra is about half done. I still need to finish beading the bra, add a little fringe to the center front of the bra and add halter straps. The halter straps are going to have the same black ruched chiffon as the bra and belt. I'll add some round swarovski rivoli's for some sparkle to the halter straps.

I'm almost finished with the confetti costume. I still need to line the bra and add hooks. I'm just safety pinned into it in this photo. Pardon the decidedly unglamorous looks going on here.

Re: What are you working on in September???
I have finished the White Baladi Costume!!! I've been working on it since June, and I'm feeling ridiculously proud of myself!
It includes a dress, bra, belt, mandeel, shorts (not made by me, I'm afraid), and a pair of armbands, for when I'm using the bra & belt as a bedlah.
I'm hoping to have on-the-body photos available in the next couple of days, but I was too excited to wait until then for posting!
ETA- the body shot!

Re: What are you working on in September???
I bought an unfinished blue Bella-inspired costume on Bhuz, and I'm altering it to fit me. I've actually been documenting the process on YouTube. There are half a dozen videos up so far, and I'll be adding more as I go. :-)
Here's a direct link.

Re: What are you working on in September???
I've been collecting pieces of "lipstick red" color Assuit for a couple of weeks (they are "new" Assuit but very pretty) to make a bra, belt and skirt set for myself as well as all the other compoents, including decorations. Also, silver braid to cover shoulder straps of red bra I bought on E-bay for $7.72 (new, and includes shipping!). I plan on using parts of a silver headpiece that has long dangles of these little tiny silvery fish fringes to put in back and sides of belt. I am not plannning on embellishing the bra and belt much beyond this as I don't want to hide the Assuit patterns.
So, while I wait for bra, I will go ahead and start on belt which is a more involved project than bra. My belt pattern is a two-piece belt with a "v" in front which flatters my wide hips. I use buckram as the base and after putting several darts in back of belt so it curves over hips smoothly (no gaping at top) I will then cover entire belt with red felt, then red lycra before sewing on the red assuit. When that's done, I'll add "fish fringe" at sides and a nice piece at top of back of belt. Last step will be to add one more layer of red felt as a lining inside belt. Whew!
The bra, when it comes, will just need to have the cups and back straps covered in the red lycra and then the red assuit. Then I'll sew the silver braid onto the shoulder straps for strength, and I have a nice silvery centerpiece with a red jewel to sew between the cups. I'll also line the bra cups with red felt and voila, really red Assuit bra.
Oh yes, the skirt will be a straight panel skirt with side slits all the way up worn over shiny silver metalskin L.Rose bellbottoms.
I do love red and versatility in my costume pieces - this red Assuit bra & belt can also be worn with other items, especially my black Assuit dress that has a black bra that came with it that I think is a bit boring.
Pictures to follow when this September project is done!

I've made some more progress on my Fuchsia costume. The bra is almost done, I still need to add few fringes to the center front and add lining. The skirt is about half done except for fringes and a little of beading.

Re: What are you working on in September???
beautiful work ladies!!! It's such a motivating and inspiring thread every month. Now I can't wait to start a new costume.

I had posted the start of my multi-blue print fabric and belt back in August. I actually finished it in August but never got a chance to post the final product.
I competed in it in August and even won in it. Yah! LOL it is one of my most comfortable costumes. Very happy with how it came out. I love the starfish hand thingy and arm thingy.
Trying to figure out what fabric to use to do my next costume. I've been hoarding fabric for years LOL.
Notice the big difference in the colours in the photos in indoor light and outdoor light LOL!

Re: What are you working on in September???
This is the second redo of this copper (vintage Sim?) set I purchased on ebay 5 years ago. It was a B and I am a DD. I was in love, what can I say? This is a copper version of the one that Susanne DelVeccio is photographed in and I had to have it! I had to cannibalize the wrist bands and head band to replace the skinny straps. I then made it into a halter design. That left the epaulets without support, so I German engineered a counter weight in the back to keep them in place. The chest band was not wide enough under the pits, so that was added and beaded. Ozma told me to stop worrying about an exact match and get on with it...so I did. I am happy with it now. You can see the added portions in dark on the last photo. Would I do it again? Ahhhh .... NO!
