Re: A really good lip balm?
Does Burt's come in some sort of applicator type of container? I HATE sticking my finger in the pot. YUCK. But, I love Burts.

Re: A really good lip balm?
i also have sensitive lips my lips burn like crazy with most products.
so many of us are allergic to stuff i dont know why they put all thse perfumes in all creams and make-up.
The ones that have kept my lips looking good through months in desert in the Mideast and in cold winter wonths here are :
Labello Hydro care ( with a light green cap) 1.50$
Marcelle Lip Balm 6$ (amazing with shea butter&aloe)
once i picked up Clinique Lip treatement once in a duty free because i had forgotten my lip balm at home when going to Egypt.
it worked really well and plumped my lips also but at 13 or 15$ i find it expensive to use it regularly.

Re: A really good lip balm?
I have constant dry lips. I wake up in the morning with cracks in my lips from them being so dry all the time. I read through this thread and tried a few products mentioned and I'm in love with Burt Bee's. I got the pomegranate one and one of the color shimmers. I them both. I'm hooked. Thank you ladies!

Re: A really good lip balm?
I proclaim myself queen of lip balm. Never go anywhere without them. In fact I go out and forget to take one with me I end up buying a new one to last me the day.
Off the top of my head, I've tried the cheaper drug store brands, Dr.Hauschka, Gale Hayman, Burts Bees, Ren etc If it's balm in a pot or stick I've probably tried it.
Burts Bees is good BUT I've found one that is better. John Masters Organics.
The main difference is between them is that I find the JMO to have more slip and an oily feel it feels lighter in texture but it actually very rich. BB's tend to feel more solid and grease like.
So what becomes your favourite may depend on what texture you prefer. Happy hunting.

Hey there!
Chapstick naturals doesn't contain petroleum. It also doesn't contain menthol, eucalyptus, camphor, peppermint etc., which my lips find highly irritating. It's available everywhere and it's cheap! And I don't have to stick my finger in it to apply (ugh!). Give it a shot!

Re: A really good lip balm?
I just use Vaseline
Slick on a lot of Vaseline on your lips, then using a fresh toothbrush (not the one you use every day), massage the Vaseline into your lips. This will get rid of dry, scaly dead skin & will leave your lips soft & chap-free.
This winter was the 1st time I had problems with my lips bleeding and chapped. I tried everything and nothing worked and it was getting worst.
I put a towel on my pillow and put the Vaseline on right before I went to bed and the next morning my lips were almost healed. I couldn't believe it... It works!

Re: A really good lip balm?
I find that most lip plumpers (which don't really plump lips) work really well as lip conditioners.

Re: A really good lip balm?
I love lip balm and have quite a few of them. I wear them under lipstick/gloss during the day and apply them to my lips before bed every night. My favorites are:
Rosebud Salve and its sisters, Brambleberry Rose Lip Balm, Strawberry Lip Balm and Minted Rose Lip Balm (all are made by the same company)
MAC Lip Conditioner, both regular and tinted
Softlips
Korres Lip Butter

I really like Balm Balm - the fragrance free one is very good and they use all natural ingredients too.

Re: A really good lip balm?
If there is menthol in the lip balm it could be contributing to your dry lips, as it is an irritant. Any scent/flavor might cause you to lick your lips more often, which will dry them out (and irritate them, as saliva has digestive enzymes in it...) Go to Lip Care. Standard disclaimer; I just really like the stuff and it works for me.

Re: A really good lip balm?
for those of you that love the little pots of balm.
I have in my draw at work two little japanese white pots, one with a solid perfume, one with lip balm. Guess which one I've just slathered my mouth with? I was thinking 'um this smells nice'.... look before you dip!

Re: A really good lip balm?
One word: Aquaphor.
When I was on Accutane, my lips cracked and bled and peeled, and Aquaphor was a godsend. It's a clear, unscented jelly, a lot like Vaseline, but it's not exactly the same thing. You can find it in with the lotions at Target or Walgreens or any place like that.
We give samples of it to our patients at the clinics I've worked at. Unlike cosmetic products, there aren't any weird and potentially irritating ingredients in it. It works especially well if you slather a thick layer onto your lips before going to bed at night.
It gives a nice shiny look to the lips. If you like a bit of color, get a pot of powdered mineral makeup (eye shadow, blush, shimmer, whatever! I recommend Bare Escentuals), and mix some of the makeup powder in with the Aquaphor.
