    Antiperspirant Face Make-Up foundation?

I'd like to be slightly less drenched at the end of a performance with my sweaty face.

I couldn't find a thread on this subject though. Is there one I missed? Is there such a think as an antiperspirant for your face?

Drag queen trick: cover your face with clear stick deodorant as a primer. It's really bad for your skin because it blocks the pores. You will look marvelous for the show and possibly break out for days afterwards. Its a trade off.

I'm wondering if an aerosol (like old-school Secret in a can) or one of those antiperspirant crystals would work better than the stick, but I assume the drag queens already tried those possibilities and rejected them.

Would adding a bit of cornstarch to your face powder help?

    Re: Antiperspirant Face Make-Up foundation?

I'm a big face-sweater, too, and have decided that 'less is more' when it comes to foundation. I haven't come across anything that helps stop the sweating, nor a foundation that's sweat-proof. I've decided that I'd rather wear less coverage that I can sweat through, as it's better to glow than end up with a caked face! I prefer a lighter foundation (with concealer for the blotchy bits) and a good layering of face powder, rather than a heavy pancaky base.

I also apply less foundation to the really sweaty bits. For eg, I've worked out that my upper lip sweats really badly (I swear I don't have a moustache that's causing it ), so I apply less foundation there or it runs all over my lipstick. Also, my forehead is a big sweat area, and it seeps into the corners of my eyes - combine with heavy eye make up and contact lenses for super-ouch effect. I've discovered that wearing an absorbant headband close to my forehead helps direct the sweat down the side of my head instead! Then I use MAC paint pot as an eye primer, MAC matt eye shadows and liner pencil, as they seem to drip less than other brands. I definitely can't keep any gells, liquid or shiny products on my sweaty eyes, and have to under-do the mascara on the lower lashes, lest I give myself Alice Cooper special make-up effects.

And finally, minimal fringe, or I wear it swept to one side, otherwise it looks like a soggy rat by the time I'm finished.

    Ahh, the glamour!

Another drag trick is spray deoderant/anti-persperant instead of the stick. Not quite as pore-blocking. I only need a light spray on my face and back and it really helps for shows. I don't think I would do this all the time, but I have very sensitive skin and have never had a reaction.

Use as plain a spray as you can find - something like Sure Unscented or regular Arrid Extra Dry.

I use MK's "oil mattifier" - it seems to help the perspiration, and it certainly helps to keep my face from melting off. My MK gal (a dance sister) had me try it, and it works (at least for me)! Its supposed to "deal with" oily skin - which I do have - so "seems to help the perspiration" may just be my perception. Either way, its an improvement.

I did another search with different terms and found this:

Michael Davy Sweat Stop Anti-Perspirant Skin Prep, Pre-Makeup & Shine Control Products The Paint and Powder Store

    anyone try it?

I think I might have to experiment with some of your suggestions.

    Couple of tricks:

Tinted moisturizer instead of foundation and a good powder. believe it or not, this will actually give you a glow.

Wear a head band. There is a reason which Fahteim does this. Even if it is a thin band at the hair line, it will help to absorb the sweat.

I know more. I'll have to think about it.

I can't remember the name of the company, but my director uses a setting powder made for clowns to wear with their makeup. It contains an antiperspirant and does wonders down here in South Texas! You might try searching clown supply sites...

Selene - thank you for the that reminder. Ben Nye has a great neutral coloured powder called Neutral Set translucent powder. If you want to try it out before investing, you can get it in a mini shaker for about $5.00

Howdy. The magic word in foundation or primer for you is "mattifying." For primer, Make-Up Forever is good and pricey, L'Oreal gets good reviews for less money, and Monistat Anti-Chafing Gel Powder is effective and cheap. :)

Have you tried a compact foundation instead of a liquid? It's heavier coverage, but something like Clinique's CityBase has more powder in the formulation so does a better job of keeping the sweat in line. Rimmel's Stay Matte is lighter coverage, liquid, and drugstore-priced, and worked pretty well for me in a pinch this summer.

I use a little Ben Nye Neutral Set on top of everything and it helps a lot without changing the color of the makeup. I have a big bottle and will be happy to share if you want to try without buying. (Will I see you around this weekend?) The Sonia Kashiuk loose powder from Target in the "transparent matte" is very similar, surprisingly effective, and handy to buy.

If you try the drag queen tips above, make sure you're using antiperspirant, not deodorant. The latter won't help a bit unless you have a stinky face as well as a sweaty one. (Sounds like a playground insult: Stinky-Face Shems!) I am sure your face smells pretty sweet.

    HTH!

    !
During rehearsals for a troupe show this summer I was dripping with sweat and was pretty worried about this. I used the Monistat Gel as a primer for the show and I found it did help.

    Re: Antiperspirant Face Make-Up foundation?

I use Lanacane Anti-chafing gel as a primer (I think it's the UK equivalent to Monistat) and it seems to do a fairly good job, and is literally a fraction of the cost of the 'proper' primers. One of the key ingredients is corn starch! But again, I'd second a head band as a way of re-directing sweat away from the face.
