I'm sorry to everyone, especially to Sahira for causing drama on a thread that should be drama-free.

It's great weather outside but I'm sick at home. At least this means I have time to work on my silver bedlah started in September.

Sahira, give other people a chance to start the thread, eh? And give us a chance to have actually woken up and done some stuff to post about!
Oh - I'm sorry. I don't wanted to offend anyone. If I was disturbing, I will delete the thread if possible. I was just impatiant because I am so curious about other people's lovlies...

What is wrong with someone being excited about starting the monthly costume thread? The two comments were uncalled for and mean girl tactics. I love this thread and don't care who starts it, as long as one is started.

Christ, people, I think Bea was just being silly. As for someone starting it with pictures of what they're working on, I like that. However, I really don't care who starts or if they have pictures.

Now that that is said, I can't wait to see what everyone is working on this month too.

I don't feel good about this thread any more - in fact: I feel horrible.
I only was curious about other people's work which I appreciate a lot. (And I have tons of stuff I'm working on but just no pictures of it at the moment.)

    Thank you, Sahira.

Don't feel bad about being excited by what people create. I know this thread inspires me when I am stuck on a design.

I also look to this thread for inspiration and hope that soon I can get back to my bellydance costumes and have something to post. So don't feel bad about starting the thread with nothing to show.

I always check out this thread for inspiration, but so far I've had nothing to offer up. I am just starting to work on my first new dance costume in years. I went to my teacher's house for a lesson on costume design and construction. I have drawn up lots of sketches, got a sturdy bra for a base, and have various fabrics waiting to be transformed, but October's gotg to be given over to making Halloween costumes for my family (my 8yo son wants us all to be characters from the book Howl's Moving Castle). This is actually good because I need to brush up my sewing skills before I tackle a complicated project like a new BD costume!

Don't feel bad about the thread, I personal love this thread too and don't care who starts it. You starting the thread every month gives me a kick in the b.... to post my pictures and show my progress. :-)

Wow, I'm glad I didn't start this thread and just mainly lurk. I could see this happening to me quite easily.

Not everyone has talent in creating lovelies. I kinda see this thread as the BHUZ Online Museum of Art & Fashion, without having to actually pay an admission fee. They'd never let ME in any museum if I had to show my work, lol.

I think the comments following the "I was just being silly." clearly negated that declaration. IMO, those comments definitely had some mean bite to them.

I am working on masses of zill bags. I have experimented with different closures and have settled on velcro. Not my favorite but I think it's the most practical and cost effective. I hope to market them locally if i'm able. If no one wants them i'll be stalking swap for zills to fill them all up with LOL!

The fabric is a quilted batik that I found at a discount shop. I like the padding for noise muffling and a little protection for the contents. I finally figured out the right tension for my serger to encase the edges before I join them. I'm using 3 cones of maxi lock and one cone of wooly thread on the upper looper. We will see how they come out. It feels good to work on something again.

I threw a book behind the serger because I couldn't keep it from sliding around while I worked. I had put some of that textured type stuff you use in kitchen shelves but it was ineffective.

I'd certainly by some, but I like them with zippers.

Also, you may want to consider a variation on the theme and make some bedlah bags, they'd probably go over well.

And if the interior had little pockets with snaps to keep the accessories in, it'd be brilliant

Re: What are you working on in October 2011???

    Hi!

Ok - I was very upset but have calmed down.
I used the first holiday-day to finally take pictures of one of my projects: A golden Bella.
I cut the skirt (my - that was hard...) on the left side, sacrificed one of the gauntlets to make an insert to the skirt and rebeaded and refringed this after sewing it in.
The rest of the gauntlet became a wristband with a little cutout and a band for the upper-arm. I completely beaded and blinged those up by myself. The second gauntlet was changed into a second upper-arm band which I beaded and put Swarovskis on, as well - and another wrist-cuff out of the lower part of the former long gauntlet.
Finally, I put a second layer of chiffon underneath the chiffon-skirt part as it was too see-through and short for me.
Now, I'm thinking about letting my seamstress make some chiffon-inserts for the upper-arm bands to put in or out via snap-fasteners so that I have either plain arm-bands or princess-sleeves.
Here are some pictures of the finished bits and pieces - and the costume:

I've always been a lurker, but finally made something of my own. Since it was my first time making a bedlah I wanted it to be simple, yet sparkly. Holy cow did I learn a lot doing this! For one thing, thimbles are your friend. I just love seeing all your lovelies!

Re: What are you working on in October 2011???

Here's my new project. I've been inspired by the new silk Emans and some of the selfmade silk costumes made by bhuzers (namely Zana). This one is going to have a real retro feel to it. I'm going to cover the belt in chunky style beading. It will be a mix of amethyst, garnet, gold and fuschia beads. The bra is going to have a swath of beads under the bust, but will largely just be covered with my faux silk fabric. I think the skirt will be sewn onto the belt. I'm thinking no fringe on this costume which is a real departure from my norm. I haven't really decided yet. I'll see how I feel about it once the beading is done.

What you see in the photo is the uncovered bra, covered bra straps, covered arm bands, a covered headband, the belt and the skirt. The belt features faux cutouts inside the big circles. I love the look of cutouts, but the logistics of wearing them are too much of a pain for me. These "cutouts" have a layer each of nude mesh, nude lycra and a felt backing.

I might also make myself a silk flower hairpiece to wear as an alternative to the headband. It has such a '70's feel to it. I love the colors.

Yum. Love. I repeat what I said earlier via emails you are a costume enabler, and a tease. And I love you for it! I must see this wednesday and you must promise to at least consult with me on a commission when you're done with this. So silky and lovely and modern.

Think of it like this, I'm working the kinks out of the design for you. I'll bring it in on Wednesday.
