Russian/Ukrainian dance wear?
Not only do I love the style of dance and all the dancers that come out of Russia and the Ukraine, but I also find myself in awe of their costuming, particularly the folk costumes. Can anyone tell me where they might get the costumes or a designer thats typical for a eastern european dancer? Or even anything similar?

Re: Russian/Ukrainian dance wear?
From my understanding, they wear mostly designs that come out of Eastern Europe in general. Beledi.ru has a costumes section with separate threads for each designer, you will find many of them there (use Google's browser so Google can translate the website directly: it's not perfect but it'll help you figure out where to go if you don't speak Russian).
This is my impression from watching their videos and visiting beledi.ru from time to time, that very few Russian dancers are buying costumes outside of Russia/Eastern Europe. Well, they don't need to. In my opinion all the best designs are coming out of Russia right now, their designers are extremely talented and creative, their creations are top-notch stuff.
You can try and see if any of their designers have their contact info on their profiles there, to email them and see if they speak English and ship to the US. I haven't personally tried that, because I don't really want to spend a lot of money on costumes and have decided to start making all of mine (once I am good enough, I will use theirs as inspiration), but you can. They often don't ship here though, it can be a real hassle, something about it being extremely expensive and also Paypal doesn't work (I think, at least in the Ukraine).

Re: Russian/Ukrainian dance wear?
There were two long threads on this forum about Russian costumes, I think some of the posts included contact info. The pics in those threads were awesome and fabulous. Definitely the prettiest costumes today, IMHO.

What I love on russian costumes, is that you can see, that quantity of fabric on skirt really matters. The flow of their skirts are incredible and it gives another dimension to the dance. It's clearly visible on the video in yellow costume in this thread.

You might want to check out Anastasiya's Designs. She's a Ukrainian designer. Her daughter, Nalini, has many of her costumes for sale here in the US (she's in Seattle, WA) and Anastasiya does custom orders, too. I have one of her costumes and have admired many of her others. They're very well made, lots of beads and jewels and fit great. She tends to design mostly bedlah sets with beautiful skirts and other accessories. Here's Nalini's website where you can see some of them:

(If the link doesn't take you to the right place, just check out the Store category on nalinidance.com.)

Re: Russian/Ukrainian dance wear?
Ladies,
I think my message will be relevant to this thread.
I am a Ukrainian dancer based in UK and have been designing my own costumes for a while.
As more and more people were asking me why I am not designing/selling to others and I recently decided that I might as well try it!
In my design approach I go a step further as I go to buy the fabrics to Paris. I love costumes made of silks and a fabric sort of gives me an inspiration.
You are welcome to visit my facebook page (Amalura Belly Dance Artist) where I have a few of my designs.
I have nothing for sale yet but pls PM me on facebook if you would like me to let you know when I will have some of my new designs ready.
I guess I may say that I can offer a unique design, good Ukrainian quality and UK service
Amalura x
