Fabric question- + attachement thing
The lycra fabric used for the modern slim lined costumes.... what if you were looking on line would that be called?
Fabric.com has swimwear/active wear secxtion
Search Results
and when walking through the store feeling fabric (I am a big fan of feeling said fabrics) some of them seem to be too light- and I am afraid I will be ordering that high shine super stretch stuff instead of what lycra costumes really are.
So- can someone point me in the direction of what I should be looking for please and thank you?
My second completely unrelated question is how to actually ATTACH a picture to here- no just embedd it?
I have a chart that has recently come to me that I thought would be super duper helpful- lists the types of threads available and what they are good for and what they are NOT good for in beading/embrodairy. Given its a frequent question- I thought you all might like to see it- but if I take a picture it will be too small. Thanks!!!

Re: Fabric question- + attachement thing
For beautiful, quality lycra I totally recommend Spandex House and Spandex World
Spandex House Inc. One of the Largest Spandex Collection of The World.
Spandex World Inc. spandex fabric, lycra stretch fabric
Their stuff is much nicer and heavier than the thin, flimsy costume lycra from JoAnns or Wal-Mart. It costs a bit more but the quality is so worth it and the choices are mind boggling! Both shops offer free samples, so you can see and touch the actual fabric.

Re: Fabric question- + attachement thing
People have posted them up as a referance before- I just haven't had the nerve to try a new shop- I guess it's time too! Thank you! :)
follow up question- what is stretch ITY?

Re: Fabric question- + attachement thing
I forget what the ITY means, but it's just like jersey fabric but with stretch to it. It's less expensive than typical lycra, but feels nice and soft... it just doesn't have the firm stretch that lycra and other spandex do. I use it often for making some of my own clothes and for costuming.

Re: Fabric question- + attachement thing
thank you ladies! my google fu is a bit weak today it seems.
now- chart attachment question- how do I attach a full picture without embedding it- the chart is 2 pages wide essentially- I'd type the information up that will be tedious and less useful than the spread it is in now.

Re: Fabric question- + attachement thing
Costumes are made of "nylon lycra", though sometimes these fabrics are just labeled "lycra" (but if so, check the fiber content and make sure it is nylon lycra).
A good fabric store is going to label their fabrics as heavy, medium, or lightweight. Lightweight isn't necessarily cheap or bad, it's just too lightweight for a modern belly dance costume skirt.
Fabricdepotco.com carries various weights of nylon lycra in a large color selection.

I love this place: performancewearfabrics.com
For $24 you get swatch cards of EVERYTHING she has (and trust me, its alot!). And she sends more samples as she gets things in. Its a great way to feel a bunch of fabrics at home and get exactly what you need.
