Costume Skirt a Little Too Big - Got a Fix?
Greetings!
I recently purchased two costume sets online going off of measurements. What I suppose I didn't take into account was that the measurements given on the hip sizes of the costume were the "unstretched" numbers. I'm not exactly swimming in them, but I don't have to undo the zipper to put them on or take them off. As soon as I start to move, audiences would get a peek of my underwear...or more! lol
One skirt has zero elastic on the waistband (which strikes me as odd), and the other one has some on either side of the hip, but not all the way around. Does anyone have experience with making these kinds of skirts more snug at the waist without too much bunching or accidentally creating a muffin top? I realize that the best thing would be if the overall skirt was tighter, and not just the waist measurement, but they really are lovely costumes and I'd rather not try to exchange either one.
(I suppose on the upside, this means I can order smaller costumes next time! :-D )

Re: Costume Skirt a Little Too Big - Got a Fix?
I had a similar problem with a used lycra skirt. It was big enough to pull on and off without touching the zipper (which ended up breaking, anyway!), and didn't stay in place.
I stitched the broken zipper closed, and added two wide strips of elastic all the way around the inside of the skirt. The elastic was about 2" wide (maybe a little narrower). One strip went right at the very top, the second about an inch below the first. I sewed the elastic directly to the skirt at 12 different points (like numbers on a clock). It looks a little messy on the inside, but stays up and put without muffining
