    Shamadan Search

I am ISO a good quality Shamadan. Does any one have any recommendations on where to get a quality one. In the past I have used a brass candle holder that holds 4 taper candles because it balanced nicely and did not require a cap but I think I would like to get something a little more grandeur. I've been saving up and I don't want to get a cheapie. I'm so nervous about ordering online since I've heard some horror stories about swords getting bent and broken in the mail but it seems I may have no choice (I'm in the middle of nowhere). Has anyone had any luck with any online shamadan vendors? Or does anyone have a good one for sale? If I'm measuring correctly I have a 22" head. Any advice would be great :) Thanks

The ones from dahlal.com are a bit nicer than the average. But if you want top quality, go custom. Try Sword & Stone - Custom made arms, armour & props for television, film & the serious collector (they did work for BDSS. Tell Tony I referred you please) or Dark PrinceStudios (Ask for Ruslan or Jay and please tell them I referred you) Both are quality metalworkshops and will squeeze in bellydance jobs for friends ;)

This might be a longshot, but I bought a gorgeous shamadon from Almanar...but the headpiece it too big and even with padding it still does not feel secure. I have tighten it to as tight as it goes, but am wondering if a metalsmith could do something to make it smaller? Buy like an inch? Do you think that is something they would do?

If its a "typical" Shemadan headpiece, anyone with a large soldering iron can modify it. Line the headpiece with Dr. Scholl's "MoleFoam" - not "MoleSkin" - "MoleFOAM" when you're done.

I got one from Almanar. It was not cheap, but it's well made, beautiful, and comes with pretty glass crystals to bling it up. I actually found my headpiece a bit larger than I wanted, but with some extra padding it was a good fit. I am very happy with it.

She sent me some extra padding, but I am not sure that will be enough, so I might try this...Thanks Zorba!
