clip in vs. loop or other hair extensions - have y danced with clip in ones?
Hi! I am considering buying some hair extensions and I wonder it the clip in hair extensions that are easy to put on yourself, not by a hair stylist, do they fall out or loosen while dancing? I don't do "fashionable headbangs":) but sometimes some hair tossing happens. Any experience, ideas? Iam watching hair extensions on e-bay and don't know which one to choose. I know loop or hot U-tip extensions are the best but what if I only want to use them for occasions? Thx for the replies and ideas I hope they will be useful for others as well.

I don't use the smaller individual lock hair extensions, so I can't directly comment on that. (My sister has them from her wedding, wears them all the time. No problem putting them in. But she isn't a dancer, so don't know how they would hold up to any kind of hair tossing.)
What I can comment on is half falls and clip in falls. I wear both and do a lot of hair tosses, including big over the shoulder hair whips when I turn. Never had a problem Just made sure I used lots and lots of hair pins!
Have fun!

I love them!!
I purchased a set of these a little while back, got the first opportunity to use them the other day. FULL HEAD CLIP IN REMY HUMAN HAIR EXTENSIONS, 20" LONG CHERYLS BURGUNDY RED 99J | eBay
After a full day workshop I had to rush to a gig, then a haffla (no time to go home between any of those!!). Went back to our dance studio to do hair and make-up after the workshop, put all but the smallest two of these into my hair, and set off to the gig. One twenty-minute set later, rushed back to the haffla for five more costume changes and dances. Admittedly, no head tosses, but they were going strong, so I figured I'd sleep in them and see what happened.
1 full nights sleep later, with my hair back in a very loose braid, they still hadn't moved. They lasted all the way through the next day's workshop too! - very easily 24 hours, with a lot of movement, sweat (yes, I'm going to wash them), rolling around on a pillow, tied up, let down.... and best of all, they blended really well and people loved how they looked (even the hubby!), couldn't pick that they were clip in extensions.
The only thing I will say is that prior to setting the clips into my own hair, I did spray the parting with some heavy-duty hairspray, but didn't tease or back-comb anything. Didn't move an inch, but also came out really easily when I wanted them to.
I did tip my head upside down a few times, they always felt secure. I guess the best way to find out for certain is to try them, but I reckon they'll do the job. :)Last edited by superbunny; 11-30-2011 at 04:27 AM.

I use clip in extension all the time. They are easy and I love them. I got the remy human hair extensions from my local sally beauty. I got straight ones (my hair is straight and fine), but sometimes I set the extensions and my hair with rag rollers to make it wavy.
They take me about 10 minutes tops to clip in myself. I can even do them without a mirror. All I need is a clip to hold my real hair out of the way while I apply them.

I always wear fake hair when I dance. I've used all sorts of hair things over the years, beginning with full wigs back in the 80s when big hair was in, because nothing will ever make my thin, baby fine hair "big".
Nowadays I almost always wear a clip on ponytail-type hairpiece wrapped with a head scarf. My hair is very thin, so the scarf hides all traces of the clip and bobby pins. Also, if the piece does not match my hair exactly, the scarf provides a buffer color that gives the illusion of matching. I prefer the alligator clip on style, and only once ever has one fallen off. That was the day I forgot bobby pins and so it was not securely fastened in place.
The cool thing about this style of hairpiece is that it's fun to decorate. You can put in yarn, feather, or beaded falls, or braid beads into the strands of hair. These pieces are inexpensive, so it's no big deal to spray a few (or many) strands or braids any color with floral spray paint, or use glue to secure an uncooperative hair decoration.
Once, I gussied up a wig, and people asked how I got the stuff to stay in my hair. It was fun to see the expression on their face when I said use fabric glue :)

I always use clip-in extensions and I love them! I usually tease and spray my hair at the roots before putting them on to make sure they stay in place. I really like the ones that are made of natural hair because you can style them like your own hair.

I used to have a thick head of hair, and my hair has been falling out a lot the past several years. So I got one of those Jessica Simpson's hair extensiont (its a full piece placed under your hair). It was OK, but now I used separate pieces of human hair that I cut and sew on the clips myself. I love them! I don't even need a mirror to put them on, and it takes me only a few minutes. And they really stay on, even when I toss my hair around. It probably would help if I put a bit of spray right at the point of the clips...maybe next time. My latest purchase is a 24" wavy extension that I got from China (very cheap but nice). It is a perfect match, and I always get compliments. I feel like a princess.
