    Ooh glitter!

    So is it now socially acceptable to wear without someone assuming you're either a teenybopper wannabe or a stripper wannabe? I've always been afraid to wear it because of the stereotypes...

    I am going to have to browse the craft glitter section now! When I think of craft glitter, I think of those big chunks of foil in garish colors like they give you in grade school. Oh my, this could be dangerous if glitter is made of awesomeness these days...

    Best saying ive heard in a long time "the herpes of the art world"

    The glitter I use is edible glitter that you use for dusting cupcakes etc. My thinking is that if it its safe enough to eat then its safe enough to sprinkle on my skin *but this is done at my own risk and nobody has ever told me this*. It is ultra fine, and dazzlingly glittery, much more glittery than regular glitter.

    Plus if you happen to drop it when you are working at a restaurant and it infects every corner of their establishment then at least you know its edible (not that that is a true story or anything )

    I was stage manager this weekend for the Christmas production put on by the local Sweet Adelines & Barbershop groups. Most of them are, umm, at or beyond retirement age, with a few young'uns thrown in here & there. There was a bit of complaining about all the glitter migrating into the men's dressing room (along with some good natured speculation about how it was getting there, Mrs. Claus...)

    Thank you for this article!

    "I am so glitter-obsessed that I actually have a friend who was a biology student at Berkeley look at many types of body glitter, craft glitter and cosmetic grade glitter under her microscope! I sent her lots of unlabeled glitter samples, and she told me what shape they were and what they were made of…it was extremely educational!"

    ...You could probably get a grant for this sort of thing, you know Certainly this is science in the service of the betterment of all dancerkind (and kindred spirits).

    O_O WHAT?! I've heard the saying by every guy I know 25 or younger when they complain about makeup or crafts! haha! but they usually say, "Glitter: The Herpes of Crafts- It spreads to everything it touches, and once you get it... it never goes away" ^_^;;

    Great blog post, Princess!

    I had a gig the other night, and decided that it merited body glitter. I chose a large-flake prismatic glitter in a squeeze tube that someone gave me, and it started flaking off even before I left for the gig. There are sparkly prismatic flakes in almost every room of the house now!

    I like to make my own body glitter using KY jelly as the base. You can get small tubes of it (or its generic equivalent) in the travel-size aisle at drug stores.

    ^Haha, perfect!

    I am so glad to find people who are into glitter past the age of 16. I won't lie, I've felt kinda like a freak (I don't LOOK older than 18, so I can get away with dressing younger than I am without looking silly, but still; most people I see most of the time know how old I am, so...)

    I should've known to turn to the dance world! (And probably the skating world, but most of the people I skate with are, let's face it, kids, so that doesn't count. And most of the adults I skate with, like me, don't really compete, and might not be the sort to wear glitter if we did...) I think I need to go clubbing more. :)

    Anyone ever used aloe gel to make the glitter stick? Or maybe hair gel? (I'm just afraid that for me, with lotion, it would be absorbed pretty quickly and then the glitter would fall off unless a sticky-type of residue was left behind to hold it.)
