Opinion please. I'm thinking of 'tethering' the panels of my octopus hipscarves.
Hi Bhuzzers,
Years ago, I bought several 'Octopus' hipscarfs.
The panels are floor length on me.
I didn't consider spinning when I bought them for class.
The panels flare out, and wrap around me (the panels have a bit of weight to them).
So....I was thinking of finding crochet thread that matches, and crochet a tether with beads and coins, to keep them from flaring out to far.
What do you think?
I hope to post pics of them later (I might need help with that).
Thank you bhuzzers.
Note: These are hipscarfs; two of the panels tie around you......they are not skirts.

I'm having a tough time picturing this, but I'm not sure if tethers would work. I think you're saying you want to connect the panels with a string at the bottom? If the problem had to do with the panels lifting up too far, that would restrain them, but if the bigger issue is their wrapping around your legs after you spin, I'm not sure the string would stop that. It might just create a different kind of misbehaving after a spin. The only way you'll know for sure is if you try. Maybe you could pin some ribbons to the hem as an experiment before you invest the time in the crochet version?
The other thing I would watch for is if the strings created loops you could catch your feet in when you're dancing. It might be a better solution to investigate whether you could find some sort of compatible fabric to make gores out of, or to substitute a ladder of narrower tethers farther up the openings, so you didn't have troublesome loops hanging down when the panels were straight.

Interesting thought! Maybe if you did the tethering around knee-high? That would keep the panels under control without any risk of tripping.
I've done something a little similar with a skirt that had a high slit, put several rows of beaded strings of thread between, so the beads hung down like layered necklaces when standing but held the skirt from flying too far open while spinning. I really liked the effect & added decoration!

I would only do two or three connectors- I wouldn't go all the way down to the floor.
Or strategically connect them- so you left a slit or two- essentially making it more of a skirt (like the one posted above)
but I wouldn't connect ALL of them together ALL the way down to the floor.
neat skirt/scarf by the way :)
