Show me your hand-made flowers
My next costume will feature a large hand-made flower. I want it to be a beaded flower made out of fabric (not an artificial flower). I have never made one of these before and I am curious to see what others have done. The costume is inspired by dahlias, but I doubt I will get that intricate. I am thinking it will end up looking like some sort of large tropical flower.

Just a quick set of links:
Silk Lotus Flower - Martha Stewart Sewing Projects works with dupioni silk, suggests singing the edges with a candle.
This is a dahlia DIY Mother's Day Corsage: Felt Dahlia Flower Brooch - Holidash News which shows the pattern for the petals. I would make it in stronger silk instead of felt -- stitching two layers together in that shape and then turning.
