Thread: What are you working on in January 2012

Happy New year everyone:) and happy creations
I just finished 2 costumes yesterday just intime for New Years Eve shows
One for my student and one for me.
I did not have a black or white costume for a while but now i cave a black/white craze so im planing to do another costume in that line
(Black with roses I made too)

I started this last week (thank God for Holyday vacations) the 2 first pics were shown on the December thread only with fabric pined on the bases. But now it beginning to look like something.

It's the first time I'm making a belt and skirt together as a "wrap around" style. I think I going to like it a lot. Even one of my best friend wants me to make her next costume this way. No more zipper that brakes or get stuck, no more elastic ajustements (because they get loose or make muffin top). You get a little weight on or loose some, you only have to ajust the closure (hooks and eyes).

just finished my gold and rose costume. Thanks for all the suggestions a while back on what to do with the bra!

That pink lace cossie looks fabulous…love how you incorporated "fringe" off the end of the lace on the bra and belt. Super pretty and very feminine!

OMG - chrystallized! Your pink lace-costume is absolutely gorgeous!!! I love it!

It's still a work in progress, but it's coming along nicely I think! :)

I'm channeling my vaudevillian spirit and working on this ivory damask bra and belt set to wear over a red tiered skirt! Still have lots of pieces to go but it's looking pretty good so far!

I took a master class with Fatima Habib
Fatima Habib-Russian designer has 2 master class DVDs, 1st one how to make 3 types of bra and 2nd one how to make a complete costume. I have only the 1st one so far:)
you dont have to understand russian to learn how to make the bra, because you can see only her hands and what they do and its easy to folow:)

I absolutely agree. I also had the 1st DVD and even I don't understand russian at all it was very easy to folow.
MoondanceS, if you ever managed to get the 2nd DVD and if you decided to sell it after some time, please keep me in mind, I would be your buyer.

The fabric that I have ordered from Germany finally come, so I can start working on the copy of the red costume for July - Julchen

What a great idea!

Few months ago I finished beading the costume for Czech Bellydancer. I did not sew the costume, I just did the beading and decorations.


I have also made three dresses in one shape but different colors for famous Czech bellydancer Shereen. I have only a picture of one dress so far. However, Shereen promised me to provide me with some pictures of her wearing all three dresses.


And finally a costume I bought on Ebay some time ago, but the bra was too small and there were no beading. So I am now re-constructing the bra and beading the full costume. I am also altering the skirt straps into separate belt. Here is a picture of almost the same costume, mine has a little bit different fabric print:


And here is the bra during the re-construction (other pictures of full beaded costume will follow soon):

I'm in a midst of sewing frenzy again LOL I started a couple of weeks ago. First drafting the pattern for the skirt (6 gores), then working on a bra base, then the skirt. The pic is clickable.

At least I can upload pictures!! I bought this cute costume from a egyptian friend who owns a
shop.
When I tried this costume at home I realized that the skirt fits perfectly but the bra was
huge!
I opened the lining to see if the beading was attached to the bra or only to the fabric to transfer it to another bra. When I cut it all the beads fall and I must redo all the work from the begining
So I think in another pattern of beading and add some flower details to the bra and the skirt to make it more personal.
These are the pictures of the process and when I have it I´ll show the finished costume :3

I finished the Zebra costume that I started the December thread with. It has gauntlets and a headband which aren't shown. I tried it on with a plain black velvet trumpet skirt and I think I like it better than the zebra skirt, but at least I have options. I'm thinking of making a black chiffon circle skirt to go with it too if I can find some good fabric.

I am so excited to see you posting here again in the costuming threads! Your work is always so wonderful.
