    Using a Gel Bra

Ok, I've got like 3 or 4 gel padded bras that I don't like to wear and I would like to donate them to the costuming pile. Any suggestions on how to use them? Should I puncture the padding and drain it and wash it again? That way I can avoid accidentally puncturing it during sewing or wearing.

Instead of puncturing it, could you carefully cut into the lining of the bra and remove the whole little sack of gel? That way you could replace it with regular padding, so the bra kept the same shape. You could mend the lining after, or if you are re-lining it after decorating anyway, it wouldn't matter.

If its your actual street size. It won't work for a costume bra. You need 1-2 sizes up, because it will shrink during the sewing process.

Puncturing it will always leave a remaining film of gel that will degrade, get disgusting over time and can actually degrade the bra and embellishments. It can even leak through and stain the bra.

Really, just don't use gel bras. They are not worth the hassle. Get a carnival strapless bra 1-2 sizes larger than your street size. They are a great shape, cheap and sturdy.

    Re: Using a Gel Bra

I used a gel bra and forgot it was gel bra ....

My bra had already the fabric on and started dekoration, and oh well I pocked one stupid gel pad, what a mess! I cut the bra open and removed the leaking mess also removed the intake one on the other side, washed it more then once, dried it in the sun and re-stuffed the whole thing. Never ever again will I use a gel bra (if I remember )...learned my lesson.

Darn! Well...good thing I asked before trying to make it work. I guess I'll just try selling them on the non-belly dance swapmeet and invest in some other costume bras. Thanks ladies!
