Thread: Crocheted skirts

Are crocheted skirts out of style? Does anything in bellydance truly go "out of style"?
I am thinking about the mermaidy-type skirt with a big flounce at the bottom. Tulay wore that style sometimes.

I don't think they went out of style so much as they became *impossible* to find! Threads come up periodically where we all beg each other for information on where to get one and no one ever knows.

Once a vintage one came up on the swap meet and we all foamed at the mouth and tore each other to pieces over it. I don't remember who won, but the rest of us tore our garments, ripped out handfuls of our hair, and mourned for weeks.

I'm having trouble imagining these. Does anybody have a photo?

I have seen other skirts cuts, like Tarzan type ones, too, but I like long skirts.

If someone could make these with matching arm things, what would be a good price? What if the set were sequin-less?

Hah! If I'd known they were in such hot demand I would have raised my price! As it is, I have a never been worn one in emerald green with gauntlets promised to our very own Sabrina. For
$150. If she should however change her mind, I'll let you know. I sold the silver set, eons ago. I remember I had to order them from Turkey and they took 6-8 months to get in. I never wore the green because the belt I had was cut too high in the back and the fringe was too short. Worked great though with a fringe monster belt!

a couple of years ago, I saw a duet where both dancers had these crocheted skirts-one in a dark blue and the other in a purple. I tried desperately to buy them after the show, but they absolutely would not sell them.

Years ago Dahlal sold them. Maybe she has a stash somewhere. Just thinking ....
