all liquid/creme/gel makeup vs powder makeup

Now that I'm officially in the mid 30's, I'm worrying more about my skin. I used to wear makeup every day from the age of 17-28.... then I slowly stopped until now I only wear it when I perform and for special events. I would say a maximum of 4 or 5 days a month. I've always looked younger than my age, and I want to keep it that way

I remember Azhia saying once that she never uses any powders on her skin because they will define lines and can appear to make you look older (if I'm remembering correctly) and that she ONLY uses liquids/cremes/gels for makeup.

Thoughts? Any makeup tips to keep me looking young?

Here's a pic of me makeup free from yesterday (my eyebrows are tattooed).... I have t-zone combo skin, and use Clinique's 3-step cleansing system. It seems to work well for me.

I've always been pink-cheeked with pink lips and my skin is paler than most Asians (kinda like an asian snow white) ...

I'm not sure about foundations and such but I absolutely love Physician's Formula gel eye liners. I got the 3 pack for brown eyes (it has black, brown, and purple) and it lasts for along time and looks beautiful. I swear by this stuff because it goes on smoothly and I can do a nice layered look. Typically I stick to the black and purple and do a cute cat eye type look with it.

Good luck with the make up hunt!

eta: The attached is a photo from when I was playing around with it. Almost at show level, but a bit messier.

I think it comes down to you and your skin and the individual product rather than hard and fast rules. A lot of liquid and gel formulas dry my skin, so while they add pigment, they aren't making my skin look any younger. OTOH Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil, a powder foundation, flows over my skin and looks smooth. And on yet another hand, other mineral powder foundations have emphasized every line on my face. Experimentation is key. And of course, one of the best things you can use to keep your skin fresh is sunscreen

I like this eye liner too. I do wear it with powder eye shadow though so it doesn't slide off my eyelid and reattach itself higher up above my crease.

I think it's highly dependent on the specific makeup. Have you been to Beautypedia.com? They have detailed, specific reviews of practically everything. I love Paula Begoun's Sheer Matte foundation (SPF 20). And it is true -- at mid-30s, the best thing you can do is use sunscreen religiously, every day and DON'T FORGET your neck, chest, back of your neck, ears and hands! Wish someone had told me that when I was in my 30s.

i'll check out Beautypedia.com... thanks for the link :)

upon thinking about this further... wouldn't a good primer prevent powder makeup to settle into creases/wrinkles/pores?
