3-21-2012 A'Kai Silks first to offer a specialty veil, you can read more about it in the description..the silks are sewn along the top hem but one is less wide than the other so that during veil motion, the two veils separate and create a flower petal effect. I'll be making small half circles to be sewn to large half circles shortly.
Hoping to find an experienced dancer who can get more photos of this veil in action and possibly a video? Or teaching opportunity (advanced veil technique class or workshop?)

am entertaining the thought of making layered skirts with the same kind of concept

Re: specialty veil seeking professional or experience dancer
I've swirled it around the living room a few times but have a very small room here ..plus right now I don't own burgundy costumes..I will be making more very soon, just ordered more 36 inch silks and will be dyeing some pretty color combos that complement each other. Once the half circles get here then things will really be fun..I have a pair of little wings in candy apple red with a white border adn i want to sew them together with a burgundy and pink pair of half circles. I'm also going to try sewing two half circles so that there is a space open in the middle..just an experiment..oh and 3/4 circle veils..anything that is a new toy :)

Re: specialty veil seeking professional or experience dancer
any feedback on making layered silk circle skirts is greatly appreciated, I don't want them to be bulky but instead create a nice petaled effect when they spin

Re: specialty veil seeking professional or experience dancer
My problem is that I don't have any costumes that would go with the veils! (I know, I've bought costumes to match veils before, but I've been trying to buy a new costume for a month and haven't been able to find anything that I reallly like and would fit me, so I can't buy veils unless I already have something to wear it with!)

This would look lovely with an orange, turquoise, or green costume as well. So pretty!

Re: specialty veil seeking professional or experience dancer
I would LOVE to play with this! . . . and I have 3 purple costumes . . . ;-)
I live in Canada but on Friday (tomorrow) we are driving to Saint George, Utah for 2 weeks spring break. The Dixie Red Hills would make a cool backdrop for a video. Let me know if I can help. Feel free to check me out on youtube (Hala Jamal) to see if I'm the style of dancer you're looking for. Cheers!

Re: specialty veil seeking professional or experience dancer
hey guys! received a handful of emails overnight..I did select Samira for half circles and Jewels for the rectangle veil project BUT more photos are absolutely welcome (and needed..there's tons of veil color combinations plus all dancers will have their own unique dance style)
so I'll be responding to emails hopefully later tonight..surf's up and I've been waiting six months to go blast on the waves :) I did order more silk and am happy to talk with other pro dancers about this ..am so excited by the response
I think the first veil is still in the shop..even if we don't exchange veils and photos for commercial use I'd still LOVE to see what you do..send pics to the akai silks facebook page and I can use them on the timeline tagged with your name or website ..
and..this specialty veil can be a brand new item that YOU teach to your students. You can be the first in your area to dance with one, and then teach your advanced veil students your own veil technique with it
anyone want to make an instructional video? let me know the cost to do it maybe i can help sponsor it..
as soon as silk arrives the next one i'm making is a sirena duo..shades of blue turquoise white edge sewn to a blue and aqua marine color it will look like rolling waves..and of course fire will be in there
will consider your custom requests as well..basic cost is $89 for rectangles that covers the supplies, work, dyeing, and sewing :0)
half circles you are essentially getting two pair so it will be more in the range of $190 for four veils depending on the weight used. this aint no playsilk :)

Re: specialty veil seeking professional or experience dancer
thank you all for the excited response to the new flower petals veils, I will be working with Samira for the half circles and Jewels for the rectangles, unfortunately that's all I can afford right now for freebies in exchange for photos/video.
but, anyone is welcome to inquire as we will all have our own unique style of dancing and teaching
I am getting more 36 inch silk in this next week, so I'll be making more color schemes, YOUR requests and ideas are welcome
More half circles arriving in a few weeks, fell behind on that one but they're coming
I hope dancers can use this as an opportunity to have a new 'toy'..back in 2003 when I introduced the large half circles many dancers used it as an opportunity to teach workshops, am hoping the same for the new flower petal veils :)http://www.akaisilks.com

Re: specialty veil seeking professional or experience dancer
I am interested in possibly getting one of these custom dyed to match a costume that is coming (sometime) in red. Would you pm me with how much that would be and what the time frame would be to get it after order if I waited to get the costume to order. Only asking because it might be for an event in June... Thanks , Aunna
