    turkish airport specials :)

my daughters went on a school trip over spring break to Greece & Turkey (lucky kids), and couldn't wait to hand out presents when they got home last night.

You're looking at the proud owner of an honest to goodness authentic gold & teal Turkish special - straight from the Grand Bazaar!!! They were sooooo excited to show it to me. oh my.

I'm going have to figure out some way to make it work or they'll be so disappointed...

uh oh... how sweet of them and how horrifying at the same time!

If it doesn't have nipple fringe/flowers, it can perhaps be layered into an 0ld-school American Cabaret look?

Oh my, interesting play on the airport special. At least it was not so heavy it weighed down their luggage en route home, right?

Maybe you could rework the top so it is attached to a bra in the usual bedlah fashion. The hip wrap could be sewn on a belt base, reshape the overall piece so it has a fitted and workable fit. You could embellish with fringe and stones to create an interesting look yet utilizing their gift. With work I believe it could be a treasured addition to your costume collection, especially since they brought it to you.

My exact though! I just found this past post from Kyiaana to show to some newly b-dancers on a restricted budget here is the final look (made frome a coin and paillette scarf), isn't it cute? :

I agree about putting that top on a new bra form. It's a little cheesy with the hipscarf-esque fringe, but it would be serviceable in a different shape. Maybe consider promoting the bra's bottom fringe to a second row instead of the droopy edge?

The skirt could be improved by getting rid of the visible elastic waistband. How close could you match the blue (Lycra? satin?) base for an underskirt? A metallic gold underskirt might work, too.

yup - I'm planning a total re-purpose of the top - to a flattering bedlah bra.

for the bottoms, ditch the elastic, shape the hip wrap, and if I can find a coordinating fabric... then a matching set of melodia style'd pants.

    kind of like a fusion-tinkerbell
    might be fun for voi

By the way, I have never actually seen an "airport special" costume sold inside an airport... only in basars and souks.
