disc - dome - scale findings

I really dig this Dahlal bra (the "metallic armor" bra). It's very attractive, flattering, and affordable, but it doesn't come in my size.

Does anyone know a source of the little discs? I might want to make my own version.

Maybe you want something more sofisticated, but I once made something similar with flat metallic thumbtacks.
You just pin it throught the bra, flold the nail and put some hot glue on it so it doesn't move or stab your boobs
It was a very low budget project, but I liked the result.

I'm not sure I've seen double-punched scales of that size and finish anywhere. You can get single-punched ones through vendors that sell scale mail supplies like this one TheRingLord.com Chainmail Jump Rings jumprings Scalemail Jewelry Supplies and Wire - Tags - decorative 'coins' and markers, and you can get studs through places like these Kit Kraft inc. :: Studs &... and Dome studs -. You might try poking around on Etsy, too.

I don't know if she has any right now, but Magical Fashions (https://www.facebook.com/magicalfashions) sometimes has a lot of this kind of metal embellishment. I don't know if she has pictures on her page, but you may want to email her to see if she still has them.

They look like mozunas to me. Artemis Imports had them, and I am hoping that they are still available? On artemisimports.com, click on "costuming supplies" then scroll down and click the middle picture labeled "binty bells, mirrors, mozunas and more coins". [She also has mozuna ropes.]

They have a center hole. I would attach them for this application with a seed bead in the center to hold it on (i.e. come up from the fabric, thread on a mozuna and a seed bead, then thread back through the mozuna and into the fabric).

    Love the thumbtack idea. :)

Can I add, that unless you're wearing a vest over it, please change out the straps and back strap! The Dahlal one still had regular bra findings on it.
BUT the concept is FANTASTIC! Once you find your supplies I hope you share on the "working on in *month*" thread. :)

I suspect one of the reasons embellishments evolved into the sequin+little connecting string of beads+sequin method of covering large areas is because when you go one sequin at a time with the bead in the center, it reads as bumpy, instead of flowing and directional. Since these are fairly large discs, I'm concerned using mozunas would look like "My bra is covered in dozens of tiny nipples!" It would definitely be a different effect.

I honestly can't tell from the resolution of the photo whether the pieces were sewn on as they were sewn together (up one hole, down its neighbor's), or if they were jump-ringed together with very small findings and then attached to the base. If what attracts you to the Dahlal example is the reflective, slightly scaly look reminiscent of someone dripping molten metal one drop at a time on the bra, you may not want to use center attachment points--that would create a texture almost like a large-scale, inverted orange peel.

True. Though I think with a full coverage (heh, heh), you wouldn't quite get the nipple effect.

From the image with the back view, I thinking I'm seeing holes on the top of the finding, rather than center. Like a stiffer, small paillette. So, not a mozuna, but I don't know what or where to find. And I don't know how they got them to lay that way in the front, without a bottom hole (two attachment points...).

Dunno about the center attachment method--I still can't shake this association:

Not that this wouldn't make for a very unique, textured surface on a bra, but now that I'm looking at the 1970's retro craft fruit, I'm thinking if you need something bigger than a seed bead for a fairly large, metal sequin because of hole size, there's a chance it will be grabby with long hair and veils. Maybe you'd need to be looking for a center anchor that was a lower profile shank?

Oooh, these are great links. Thanks, everyone!

I do like the reptillian look rather than a nipple look for all-over coverage. But I can see the center-hole findings working for another project.

And I'm all about covering up the tell-tale lingerie bra details, no worries!
