2008 Diet Thread! It's ON!
Okay. Here we are. Let's take stock.
I went to Jenny Craig today. I've only gained 3 pounds since I decided to do my own thing in September and try to manage my weight without the program. Considering that 3 pounds was really gained over the holiday, I am very very very proud of myself. They were proud of me too!
I'm back on now ready to lose the last 10-15 that I want to lose to be comfortable with my weight. It's not a lot but cumulatively - from the time I started dieting with Lauren last March - I've lost 15 pounds already and made it stick. The next 10-15 are doable as I'm halfway to goal.
I had originally planned on taking a year to lose between 30 and 40 pounds comfortably, and it looks like that prediction was a good one.
By the by - the Jenny Craig folks told me today that the next model is Queen Latifah. I'm so excited about that because I love her, think she's gorgeous, and she is going to be a complete and utter knock out when she takes off the extra 40 pounds or so. She's beautiful anyway but still.
Who's in and who's doing what?

I am in...what am I doing...well, I went today to take a video of a clients home as I just put it up for sale, and they were gone, and they had a bowl of M&Ms on the coffee table, and I ate a bunch of them, and then covered over the hole that was left...I warned them before they left!!! I did - really!!!

I'm in for 2008. I'm going to go back to fitday since I think it really helped me before. I already gained 4 lbs since the holidays and I think a little can be attributed to quitting smoking.
Soooo, in addition to fitday (starting tomorrow AM!) I'll be exercising everyday of the week.

Re: 2008 Diet Thread! It's ON!
I've gotten rid of all the holiday crap finally.
Since Dani and I first started, I'm down...I'll say 20 pounds, though I was a few pounds lighter right before Christmas and I'm still convinced some of that is bloat and will disappear...any....minute.....
I'd like to lose 10-15 more this year, preferably in the first half of the year. I was really on a roll before Christmas, hope I can get back on it.
I did go back to the gym today, it felt amazing!

Re: 2008 Diet Thread! It's ON!
Hey all!
Count me in! Over the last 2 years, I've lost the 20 pounds I gained during my first 2 years of college. Now I'm shooting for at least 30 more! I'm training for a triathlon this summer, (swimming, biking, and running), and using workout dvds from a great company called Beachbody! I'm also taking a combatives self defense class, and hopefully learning more belly dancing!
If it is something I would do just for fun, it isn't working out!
Luck to everybody on their weight loss journey!

Re: 2008 Diet Thread! It's ON!
Oh, boy, do I need this thread!!!! I've got to lose those extra pounds. I'm hoping to lose thirty pounds and I KNOW I can do it - just have to stay on track and keep envisioning myself lighter! I've started back to the gym - did a step class last night and I'm going to get back into weights and treadmill or walking as well. Problem for me is that the gym is twenty-five minutes from home and that means driving every day. I'll be so glad when I move back to the city! Anyway - stay on track and I'll use this support to help keep me there!..g.:

I'm in!
I've lost and kept off 27 lbs since Feb and want only 10 more (ish) to get back to a comfortable size 10 in pants. I was down 30, but gained back the 3 over New Year's weekend at my Father's house (can't.resist. king crab legs!) .w.:
I'm setting the alarm for 1 hour earlier so I can kick myself into using the home gym machine in the basement.

Re: 2008 Diet Thread! It's ON!
Count me in!
I lost lots of lovely weight for my competition in September, happy as anything with the result - so happy in fact that I just put it straight back on again!
I need to lose 7 pounds. It's not a lot but it really makes a difference to my clothes and especially to my bedlahs. I'm dancing in a hafla with Aziza in two weeks' time and I look AWFUL in my chosen costume so I've been trying to diet over Christmas (huh!) then it's my husband's birthday next week and we're going to Paris for a long weekend (HELP
!)
So, because there was no way I could do a 'proper' diet I've just been cutting right down on portions and only having carbs at lunchtime. The result is that I haven't put on any weight over Christmas which I guess is a result.
I've got my period now so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll have lost a bit when that finishes. But realistically, given hubby's birthday and the Paris trip, I think I'm just going to have to hold that tum in as hard as possible for 5 minutes 45 seconds come my hafla

Re: 2008 Diet Thread! It's ON!
I'm in too! I was doing so well before Christmas...I've put some weight back on, but thankfully not ALL...
I'm sticking with Weight Watchers, because it is challenging to me to eat better food. (example...the fresh strawberries I'm having for breakfast instead of a giant bagel smothered in cream cheese!)
I've also started doing yoga every day, for just a little while (until I build my strength back up!), but its adding up to about 45 minutes a day.
I will also be dancing more...:) Woo hoo!
My goal is to be at or a little below 160 by September. (for the Intensive!!)
Thats about 35 pounds in 8 months...if I'm close to that number, I'll be happy, but I'm not going to be unhealthy about it.

Re: 2008 Diet Thread! It's ON!
I am in although I really only want to lose 5-7 more pounds. I managed to get through the holidays without gaining anything, which is suprising, because I did not watch what I ate at all. I am currently at 139, would like to be between 132 and 135. To successfully lose weight, I record everything I eat on calorie-count.com and hit the gym at least 3 times a week, doing weights for arms, abs and back and then the elliptical for calorie burn and lower body toning. I have been dancing a lot lately, which I think is why I did not gain any holiday weight. I did 10 shows in 4 days, and went to the gym twice in that same time period and on the 5th day, my abs and inner thighs were sore! So I took a few days off from the gym, but will be back there tomorrow morning.

Re: 2008 Diet Thread! It's ON!
I'm in!
When I did my big weight loss about 4 years ago, I got within 10 lbs of my ultimate goal (130). Since then I've managed to mostly stay in the 140-150 range. Right now I'm at 152, so I'd like to lose 10-20.
The only thing that has worked for me in the past is counting calories & lots of exercise. I started exercising again, 3-4 times a week. Treadmill & legs at the gym at least once a week, and arms & abs at home. This is probably the only reason I didn't gain 20 lbs last month, because we made a LOT of cookies..g.:
Not ready to start counting calories again (I use fitday). But I went to the store today & bought a ton of fruit & veggies so I can try to start eating better!

Re: 2008 Diet Thread! It's ON!
Despite lots of eating and not much time at the gym I managed to not gain any weight over the holidays. Didn't make my end of the year goal, but I am close. So new goal for 2008 is to lose 5 lbs a month.

I'm back in, too! I'll be getting up at 3 in the morning to take the last "health distraction" (aka - my mom) to the airport for her 6am flight home. Let me tell you... I'm breathing a huge sigh of relief to finally be getting my house and life back together and onto a schedule again. Starting on Monday I get to really try out all the new DVDs I got for xmas!! Woo-Hoo!!!

Sunshine!!
You poor thing. I'll say a prayer to the non-fat yogurt god for you.
I would just say walk everywhere you go in Paris and enjoy the goodies. I never gain weight there - I always lose and it's due to walking. I know you know that. Just trying to encourage!

Re: 2008 Diet Thread! It's ON!
Well Mish-Mish, the ladies at JC told me it's normal to put on 1 pound AT LEAST when not watching your weight and I should be glad it was only .5 pounds.
Only mention that because I think for any of us who are prone to "getting wide" as my S.O. calls it, we're lucky if we stay within 5 pounds of a good weight when we get a little lax.
So, jump on in here with us - it's warm and cozy and supportive.

I think the 1lb a month is about right. I was about 4lbs over my ww goal, but now I'm more like 8lbs over.

It comes in waves for me. Sometimes I am very conscious and conscientious and other times (like the last year or so), I've been more lax--though I am still pretty good, I need to be more careful.

I have discovered the holy grail of dieting..rid the house of junk food...dont leave the house. Today was the first day a piece of chocolate did not enter my body since before Halloween. I worked on a costume all day. Yogurt -plain, flavored with a bit of sugar free jam.

Ok. I'm in. Before this year is over, I want to weight less than 200 lbs. That means I need to lose 19 lbs. I'm getting off to a slow start. I know I'm having my previously postponed surgery at this end of this month and its hard to get excited about losing weight when you know you can't exercise for 4 to 6 weeks. Maybe this thread will inspire me!!!

I'm wondering if I want to add that new OTC pill Alli to the mix of my Jenny Craig plan. I know, I know - that's nota long term solution. Still I'm sorta tempted to get a kick start for the new year.

Re: 2008 Diet Thread! It's ON!
I swear - I'm going back to the straight & narrow!!!
While I didn't gain anything - I did go kinda soft over the holidays. I need to get another 15 lbs off by my birthday & I will be very happy.
I have got to be more disiplined in 2008 so I can get my tummy firmer & loose the bingo arms
