ISO ballet slippers for my high-arched feet
Who knows about ballet slippers? I need to buy some, and am perplexed by all the choices. My feet are freakishly high-arched (cavus), and I have an extremely narrow heel.
Can anybody recommend a good shoe for class? It's hard to feel chic in mismatched socks all the time.
thank you!

I probably can, I use to dance 5 hours of classical ballet everyday for ten years...I would suggest some Angelo Luzio shoes, they're very comfortable and made with canvas...choose a shoe that has two pieces of sole (sorry I am french and don,t know if it;s the right word) on each side , so you can move your foot easily. pm me if you want more infos.

I second having the split sole, I think it's your best bet.

Re: ISO ballet slippers for my high-arched feet
i third the split soles.
try these
New York Dance Store
love em for ballet. love em for belly dance.
like there's nothing on your feet.
i buy a bunch at a time cause cause they dont cost much and saves on shipping.
leather will last longer,of course, but the canvas are like feathers

yup, split soles, discount dance supply (dot com) has good selection & prices. I like canvas because they machine wash well (and they sure need to be washed after a while!).

Personally I love Bloch split sole canvas ballet slippers. But leather probably wears better.

I use the Block elastosplit- they come in leather or canvas, narrow, regular and wide widths.

I have a ridiculously high arch as well, and prefer an Irish dancing ghillie. The way they lace allows for a super snug fit and they even offer styles with a bit of padding inside (I LOVE the Gazelle and Eclipse). The Capezio ghillies are really a different beast and I dont find that they give nearly the fit or support.

I have high arches, too. If you need a ballet slipper, definitely go split sole as mentioned above. But I have found that if I am doing a ot of dancing in one day I prefer a low, soft split sole jazz boot. My feet like the support.

You can create support by using two pieces of elastic across the top of your arch so they form an X. This should help with arch support.
I also second split sole jass shoes.

Do you guys have a recommendation for a specific jazz boot? The brand and style I always wore is no longer being made, and I really would like to get some new ones.

Re: ISO ballet slippers for my high-arched feet
I've found using a jazz sandal or pendini worked better for me than a ballet slipper. Because of my arches (coupled with slightly wide balls of the feet but narrow heels), ballet slipper don't stay put well--they slide around in the arch area--even with elastic, they don't feel as secure and well-formed as I'd like. the pendini, on the other hand, is open on the side (so not as constricted/more breathing than the jazz boot) but it has that little bit of elastic under the arch... :-)
