Re: Can me an ol' romantic
I noticed those bridal BD costumes on e-bay too and I thought they were great! And belly dance at your own wedding reception; why sure. I know a dancer who did that as a surprise gift for her new husband. These costumes would not seem fitting to go down the aisle in however. Just for the dance performance. And one would need a gorgeous cover-up robe to wear over the dance costume at the reception. So the bride would have to appear throughout the day in a succession of different fabulous opulent garments. Poor thing.

Re: Can me an ol' romantic
I got married in a bellydance skirt (A'kai!!!), I had fabulous dancers honor me with a performance, and my first dance with my love was actually belly dance (no kidding), so I am all for the idea. Still, that costume doesn't do it for me at all. It's overpriced - I'd rather use that kinda money on a really stunning costume! Ya know, something like white antique assuit <drool>

Re: Can me an ol' romantic
I was thinking of it as a useful wedding dress ..one you can actually use after the wedding! But hey...dance away.
It has a lovely Ottoman look to it...but I don't think my son's partner would go for it..mores the pity.
And Ho hum that's a another wedding put-off as yet another grand child on the way. Boy is she gonna be busy!

Re: Can me an ol' romantic
I did something similar for a recent show. It was Alternative Night and I wanted to do something "spiritual" to some beautiful music by an early music group. Here's my take, no wedding lace, but white silk/pearls/gold accents. I got the skirts and hipscarf from Bhuz Swapmeet. I had the white silk and gold liquid lame veils and found the pearl belly drape and headpiece (formerly necklaces) at Goodwill. It's hard to tell in the pic but the belly drape is like a large, flexible woven triangle of pearls with pearl drop accents along the edges.) So I spent far less than $750! (Which seems outrageous for that costume, even if it is pretty. Mardi Gras beads?) (edited to add, nothing wrong with the Mardi Gras beads, they just don't scream "expensive")

Oh...oh...Oh my. I haven't laughed that hard in a bit. I have quite the mental image right now.
Yeah... You know...maaaaybe I could see this costume for the reception thing someone mentioned, but in general...honestly, I'm just not much for the wedding-as-costume-party-or-my-own-personal-show aesthetic. This just strikes me as a little weird. Maybe for a PERFORMER at a wedding of the right type, but for a bride...I don't know....
But that's just me. I get to dress up in belly dance gear all the time. But for my wedding, no. When I got married I just wanted to wear a simple, vintage-y evening gown. Oh, we belly danced, but I just took the little convertible hair scarf I'd worn (we drove from ceremony to reception in a convertible) and slapped that on my hips, and the guests and BMs did the same with their scarves and shawls just danced in what they were wearing.

Re: Can me an ol' romantic
This thread makes me laugh because just last week three of us were discussing how to turn our wedding dresses into belly dance costumes. :)

Re: Can me an ol' romantic
Here I thought I was an original when I finally took my scissors to my old wedding dress for the pearls! lol (I'm divorced so it was also very cathardic.) I still might use the yards of white satin for a skirt.
But as pretty as her costumes were ( and I am not downplaying the effort and creativity she put into her creations) I have to agree the price was too high for something I could create myself with appliques and mardi gras beads.

Re: Can me an ol' romantic
That's something else. I just got married, and even though I had bellydancing at my wedding, there's just no way I could have done it myself. I had so much going on, I was happy to sit and have the attention deflected away from myself for 20 minute
