Hooks for costumes?
Can anyone tell me where to find the really heavy duty hooks and eyes that sometimes come already on costumes? I swear by Dritz products and I use their nickel safety pins, hook and eyes, and adjustable hooks on my costumes and have had no problems with them, but the hooks and eyes are much lighter/thinner metal than the ones that come on costumes and I would prefer to purchase those instead. Just haven't ever seen them for sale anywhere. Any ideas??

I stock up on these, especially when JoAnn has notions for 50% off:

If you have that close by, I'd check a bridal store. It seems that they have a few more unusual notions, as compared to a regular JoAnn store.

I actually use the hooks for pants and they've worked really well... I've bought from everywhere... fabric stores to Wal-Mart (although that was a late night emergency... I avoid them usually on principle) and never had a problem.

I've used these too.
Now, I have a question for you, are they supposed to "link" together? One goes inside the other and there is a "click"? I want to be sure that I am using these correctly.
They come in black and silver and the closest I could find to "heavy duty" and totally secure, if I'm using them the right way

I may be using them wrong..or I am going deaf as well as blind in my dottage. I never hear a click..one fits neatly inside the other, but I have never noticed more than just friction contact. Nothing mechanical.

Re: Hooks for costumes?
i prefer the commercial pant hook and eye from prym. can't find distributor info right now but this might help.
prym 717200 wht stl pant eye
prym 713200 wht stl pant hook
these are much stronger than the ones in the consumer sewing stores.

Re: Hooks for costumes?
try the dritz coat hooks...I find them less damaging to the costume and much more secure than trouser hooks.

I only use those too. Work great for me. I feel secure with those.
I also use these heavy duty snaps as a back up and to keep overlap in place.

Re: Hooks for costumes?
one more for 'trouser' hooks, some joann's carry different companies so you can find some more sturdy than others..................

I order this by the 1/4 yard and remove the hooks and eyes to use.

Re: Hooks for costumes?
I looked up the links-- the skirt hooks and eyes are the ones I've been using and that is the style that I am looking for but in the thicker metal that often comes already on the costumes. Like I say-- I haven't had any problem with these, just wonder why I don't ever see the heavier ones anywhere.
I do have one costume that came with the coat hooks as well as one that has the snaps so I will be stocking up on some of those as well but these darn hooks remain a mystery...
