Threading?
I know about waxing and plucking but I have recently come across the term threading for shaping eyebrows. Can anyone explain what this is?

Re: Threading?
I get my brows threaded a couple times a year. It involves taking pieces of thread and twisting them around the hair, as means of hair removal.
I found this on Hairfacts.com:
Called khite in Arabic and fatlah in Egyptian, it's a less common method in the West for removing hair at the root, used primarily on facial hair. Rows of stray hairs are yanked out with twists of cotton thread.
Description:
The practitioner holds one end of the cotton thread in his or her teeth and the other in the left hand. The middle is looped through the index and middle fingers of the right hand. The practitioner then uses the loop to trap a series of unwanted hairs and pull them from the skin. There are also devices made that can hold the thread during the procedure.
Advantages:
Inexpensive, fast, neat, considered less painful than plucking for many. Good for eyebrows and facial hair. Like plucking, results can last up to two to four weeks.
Disadvantages:
Hard to find a professional practitioner outside large cities. Can be painful and cause itching afterwards. Side effects can include folliculitis, a bacterial infection in the hair follicles, skin reddening or puffiness, and changes in skin pigment.

Re: Threading?
I get my brows threaded regularly at an Indian place in Manhattan. If you live in or near a South Asian community, it's very easy to find a threading salon. It's very cheap and looks really clean and elegant. I have had occasional redness right afterwards, but no folliculitis that I could discern. I find it more painful than waxing, but I've heard that waxing causes wrinkles. Maybe that's a myth? I liked waxing actually - it felt good. But threading is great!

Re: Threading?
Out of waxing, threading and plucking; threading is by far the most painful. The benefit is that it looks a lot cleaner than plucking and it's more exact than waxing. But I've also noticed that the hairs tend to grow back thicker and of course doesn't last as long as waxing.

Re: Threading?
A girlfriend of mine from India showed me how it was done once. I wished I could remember. She used it on her brother who had hairy unruly eyebrows. Let me think about it for a while and I might be able to explain how she held the thread. I've heard you can zip the hair off legs in 15 minutes with threading if done correctly.

Re: Threading?
Never heard of threading. That's so new! I hate anything that has to do with hair removal, though. Curious. What's the difference in appearance from waxing?

Hey there. Here's a recent thread on this very topic, including a video about threading:

Re: Threading?
I heard threading last longer than waxing. It could depend on the skill of the practitioner. I've been wanting to try threading for a while but haven't found a place.

Just the name gives me chills. For some reason it sounds very ominous to me and kind of grosses me out (it sounds like getting stitches). Waxing at least is kind of neutral. Sugaring is my favorite, though. It just sounds so happy.

Re: Threading?
I don't get when people say waxing last loner the plucking or the other way around, waxing, plucking or threading are just different ways to rip the hair out by the root. They hair should grow back the same for each of thoses methods. The only different way to remove hair is to shave it or use nair cream. So i really don't beleve theres a differents in the rate of hair growth with the frist 3 methods.
I have never had threading, I use nair and a stenceil to shape my brows.

Re: Threading?
I don't think so. I think plucking is way more painful. I think it depends on a persons threshold of pain.
I do agree that it is more precise and cleaner than waxing. Cheaper too! I get mine done on a regular basis for $5. There's a Indian lady in a salon near my house. I don't think the hair grows back thicker or at least mine doesn't. I noticed if I wait longer than normal in between sessions than I get some redness but that's about it. Never any infections or swelling.

Re: Threading?
Sugaring? That one I have never heard of. I personally am a plucker. Waxing was just too painful and I took a whole chunk out that I did not mean to. Plucking just lets me get a little more exact on which ones I want to remove. It sounds like threading it the best of both. You can remove several at once and be exact. Interesting.

Re: Threading?
Did you see the video? WHO is narrating? His voice is hilarious!
BUT, the threading technique is the same as I saw, only my girlfriend's thread was a little short, so she looped her's to form a circle.
I remember the twists in the middle and prior to knotting the thread together, she dampened it with saliva.
I was a little grossed out by her putting the thread in her mouth prior to showing me how to thread, but I was happy to know how it was done ..g.: .

Re: Threading?
Another thread on threading
http://www.bhuz.com/forum/fitness-be...r-removal.html
I do it every three weeks and absolutly love it. I will keep doing it. My eyebrows have never looked better. Yes it hurts a little bit but so does any other hair removal.
Its better for the skin aparently
