Does this veil go with this costume?
Have been arguing (well, sort of) for weeks with my significant other whether this (shibori borealis) veil goes with this purple eman. I think it does, he think it absolutely doesn't. But I think he doesn't like the veil to begin with.
Bhuzzer's expert thoughts?

For me personally, no, but it doesn't clash in any truly hideous way. I think you can get away with it.

Re: Does this veil go with this costume?
I don't think it looks bad but I think there are veils out there that would set off that gorgeous costume much better. Green perhaps?

Re: Does this veil go with this costume?
imo the tie breaker will be the background. if there is enough contrast between the costume/veil and stage background, then yes, it will be very pretty.
but if the venue is dimly lit or has dark walls, you might want a veil of a more contrasting color to better show off your veil work.

Re: Does this veil go with this costume?
I like it. I think it goes really well. But then, I seem to be weird in that I don't like veils to be a random unconnected colour from the costume - that always looks weird to me.

I'm much the same, except that my personal dislike is patterned veils...

Re: Does this veil go with this costume?
I think that it's not an ideal match, but you can get away with it. The particular thing that doesn't quite work for me is the shade? tone? (help me out you visual artist bhuzers!) of the purples in veil and costume. The costume is quite a vibrant purple, with more reddish tones, and the veil is a more muted purple with blu-ish tones. **To my eye** they don't quite work together...

Oh, dear NO!!! It looks as though you've just picked it up to use it as there's nothing else available. Sorry, but its a big no no for me. Grey and purple just don't look good, especially with that awful mottling. I have a thing about mottled veils...I personally think they look horrible. But that's just my opinion, of course. But you did ask.

Re: Does this veil go with this costume?
I would say no. Something that had purple plus some contrasting colors would look good, and for some reason I'm thinking not a watercolor pattern.
Purple and lime would look nice!

I would have to say no also. I would chose something more flattering to the color of your costume. The color in the veil is sorta drab compared to the vibrance of you costume.

Mine would. I consult him regarding ALL of my costuming. Then again my husband is apparently a little different from many men in that regard: he understands the full color spectrum and the use of colors (how many shades of white are there), has visual spacial awareness (2 dimensional and 3), understands fabrics and construction (hard and soft), and so many other talents that he lets me draw on (have to stop myself here at some point before I make him sound too good to be true).

Re: Does this veil go with this costume?
It is a little hard to be sure because I can't tell if the costume is the brilliant purple I see at the bottom of the first picture or the more muted purple of the gauntlets. In my opinion, while it doesn't look bad together if the costume is muted purple, it isn't the best combination. If the costume is the more brilliant purple and the veil is muted, then it probably would clash more in person.

Re: Does this veil go with this costume?
Nope, just Al. Builds things (furniture/cabinetry), all around handy guy (electrical, plumbing, home repairs, car repair, etc.), sews (picked that up just ten years back), and cooks (not so good with baking, but I've got that covered).
I'm left with cleaning up the kitchen after him (which can turn into a disaster zone after he's had a really inspired bout of cooking), but I can't really complain. Eating dinner at home usually out classes even the best of the local restaurants (of which there aren't that many that a person can even call a good restaurant). Now that's not to say he doesn't have his "warts" (as do we all), but I feel I did get me a rather good one. A definite keeper. ..g.:

Re: Does this veil go with this costume?
It doesn't match perfectly, but it doesn't clash either. I think the contrast looks elegant. Veils that match exactly are boring, so go with what you think. But usually I find when someone asks, they have a lot of doubt about what they're asking about. Look at other options if you don't feel confident. One thing less on your mind!

Re: Does this veil go with this costume?
Yeeaaah...I have to admit I'm with many of the others. It's a pretty veil and all, but with that beautiful warm jewel tone colored costume, that grey-ish blue undertone goes kind of pfffffttthhht.
You could go for the opposite end of the colorwheel and do a nice bright goldenrod veil (hmm...would really pop if the costume accents were gold but even with the silver would probably work). Or, for a more conservative variety...Royal blue might look nice...turquoise...teal...the right fuscia...or a pretty ombre that goes from purple to one of those colors (or purple to green!) could be really hot...or even an ombre that goes from yellow/gold to fuscia....
Now I'm just having fun with color. Ooo so many colors to toy with...off to go play in my silk veils for a while.

That veil is screaming for a white, sliver of gold costume. Maybe black. . .

OH! Bright, flaming, flourescent hot pink!!! For a look at something really close to what you'd get, go to Sedonia's profile page (ssipes) and look in her pictures about halfway down on the right hand side. That shot would give you a quick idea as to whether you'd like that combination or not.

Re: Does this veil go with this costume?
the veil doesnt clash with your costume, but maybe it would compliment it more if it has a touch of purple in it.
I often dress with monochrome costumes and then have a veil that has a touch of that colour in it ( i dont use one coloured veils ... maybe because most of my costumes are in one shade ).
so if you pick grey cause you dont like a flashy colour , maybe have a mix of grey and purple.
