How to clean Bare Minerals Brushes?
Does anyone use Bare Minerals/Bare Escentuals?
I love that stuff!!
How do you clean the brushes? Or should I toss them out and get a couple of new ones?

Re: How to clean Bare Minerals Brushes?
They make a "shampoo" for their brushes. I haven't tried it yet, as I'm a pretty recent Bare Minerals convert myself (might go shopping today during lunch, though ...).
But I'd definitely say, go with cleaning your brushes; don't just throw them away!

Re: How to clean Bare Minerals Brushes?
I LOVE Bare Minerals!
To clean the brush, I just swoosh it around gently in warm water with some mild soap added to it (Dove liquid soap works just fine). Rinse thoroughly and gently squeeze the excess water out, taking care not to ruff up the bristles, and then lay it flat to dry. Voila!

Re: How to clean Bare Minerals Brushes?
same here, especially if they're natural bristle........the cool water closes the 'cuticle' like in our own hair to limit breakage........
speaking of brushes, i stick with natural bristle cuz they hold and transfer pigment/color/powder better than synthetic, and have a good set, but if i replace them, i was wondering about Sonya Kashuk
i've passed them in target a million times, but the packaging doesn't say what they're made of.....they LOOK like they'd be natural, but i'm not sure, and passed on them til i could find out...........
anyone know?

Re: How to clean Bare Minerals Brushes?
i like to use a very pure baby shampoo for those brushes b/c it doesn't have all the conditioners and stuff like my reg shampoo. i'm afraid the extra moisturizers in the brush bristles will cause "issues" with my skin b/c its so sensitive.
also i've used the dr bronners baby soap. that works very well too and seems ok for sensitive skin.

Re: How to clean Bare Minerals Brushes?
Yep, I use baby shampoo too, mixed with some water. I "wash" it with my hands by buffing the palm of my hand, the same movement you use when applying it on your face. Rinse with clean water...be sure to do your best to not get the bristles wet past the handle, as it can shorten the lifespan of the brush. For that reason, I let it dry sideways rather than bristles-up so that the water will drip on the counter (towel under it) rather than into the handle.

Re: How to clean Bare Minerals Brushes?
I've been using Bare Minerals for a few years and lost some brushes by cleaning them with baby shampoo. I had no idea it was so harsh, the bristles began falling out of the brushes. I took the brushes to the store and the clerks said they saw brushes in that condition on a regular basis. Of course they only recommend using their brush cleaning shampoo but the clerks did say a "good" conditioning shampoo could occasionally be used. I have used both and have not had any more problems.

Re: How to clean Bare Minerals Brushes?
I don't specifically use bare minerals brushes...but I use all natural brushes.
I was told to use a mild face wash and water. I actually mix it in a foaming pump so i don't get too much suds. rinsing is the biggest pain.
I was also told to wash my brushes every 3 days or so....

I use Cetaphil* to wash both my natural and synthetic brushes (and my face!). Works great, and my brushes last a long time.
*or rather, the no-name drugstore version! :)

Re: How to clean Bare Minerals Brushes?
yes! a very important part of proper brush care, of any kind of brush: never set a brush to dry bristles-up.
ideally, use a drying coil that holds them upside-down while drying.

Re: How to clean Bare Minerals Brushes?
At Target, they sell a brush cleaner that is in a spray form. I believe it is under $5, in a small black bottle. You spray it on the brush real good, and squeeze out all of the oils and makeup residue. Rinse well, and lay the brush on it's side. I usually lay them on something with the brush end hanging off the edge, so the water has somewhere to collect.
I don't use shampoo/conditioner, because my skin is sensitive and acne prone-and I don't want to add scents, conditioners, etc. to my brush.

Re: How to clean Bare Minerals Brushes?
yep, lovelovelove it!..........used them for the last year and a half........the intensive formula has the best coverage, and is less drying........you still need to use a good moisturizer, but thats a good thing anyway....also, u can get samples to take the guess work away...........
they don't have bismuth, some of their finishings MAY, but their silk powder does not, which is also enriched with amino acids n stuff......awesome finish.............the combo has actually helped my acne prone skin as well...........

Re: How to clean Bare Minerals Brushes?
This ROCKS!!! Do the brush handles just stick between the coils? So you can hang the brushes totally upside down?! HALLELUJAH!!!
Just a bit of a thread-jack...b/t natural and synthetic brushes (and I'm going to ask a question here afterwards)... it depends on the application.
Natural brushes are great for diffused application with shadows, blushes, powder, b/c the natural bristles will absorb the colour and prevent harsh colour deposits.
Synthetic or nylon are best for liquids and highly pigmented products like cheek stains, foundations, concealer, lipstick.
That being said, and I can't stand the thought of an animal giving up its fur for my brushes has any one (MUA's out there??) tried Urban Decay vegan brushes? I am interested in trying them the same way one would use the natural bristle brushes. I just want to know if they really act like natural bristle brushes b/c there is a big difference in application b/t natural bristle and nylon/synthetic.
I have never used Sonya Kashuk brushes. If hair is falling out, that is not a good sign (nor sign of quality). I used the Bare Mineral brush when I first started using it (and switched to Everyday Minerals, thanks to the recommendations of fellow Bhuzzites!) and noticed the hair falling out. Hair does not fall out of MAC brushes and I know that Japonesque also makes a superb product. You can also purchase amazing brushes at any art supply store. They're meant to withstand frequent washing b/c of the various mediums with which they're used and they also come in a wide range of sizes and shapes in both natural and synthetic. Also, half the price. Just make sure they are soft enough for your face.

Re: How to clean Bare Minerals Brushes?
yep, hangs them upside-down. brilliant, isnt' it?
doesn't work for large handled brushes - largest brush i can get in it is the BM Maximum Concealer b/c the coils are so tight - but if an $8 gizmo can extend the life of my $24 Laura Mercier brushes, it's worth it.
any decent art supply store should have this thing. it's used to suspend brushes in thinner or turpentine so they don't dry out.

Re: How to clean Bare Minerals Brushes?
You have to use baby shampoo. Put a drop in the middle of your palm, add a bit of water and wash your brush by swirling it in cool water. When the water from the hair runs clear, press the water out.
Reshape the hair with your fingers and you MUST lay them flat to dry. If you stand them to dry (i.e., in a cup), the water will seep into the ferrule and will loosen the glue and bristles will fall out. When they're dry, just shake them out!

Re: How to clean Bare Minerals Brushes?
i concur!
you'll love the intensive for performance...........perfect finish, easy, fab coverage.............not too much touch-up
the original glo is like bare minerals, that sheen (i find it metallic and hate it, but some ladies like it cuz it makes their complexion dewy, which is cool....it just makes me look like an android ..c:: , but that's just me), and great for regular wear.....for pics and lights, even bhuzzers found it better to stay matte.
and the silk dust? can't say enuf....you don't need much to set and finish at all....just a very light dusting on your brush..............their blushes are lovely! great pigments without overdoing the color.........very natural looking
let us know how u like it!

Re: How to clean Bare Minerals Brushes?
That brush wire thingy looks awesome! What a great idea for drying eyeshadow and blush brushes...it won't fit my kabuki brush, though, if it doesn't do wide handled ones. But that's OK
I'm an Everyday Minerals user and swear by it. Try the eyeshadows too! They have some great colors. The last time I placed an order, I got it in 2 days, which was really fast. I was actually surprised to see it so early.

! Be sure to use warn-cold water, not hot. Let them dry "au naturel" by putting them straight up in a glass or a cup.
