I had a friend ask me if there are two sided tapes that might help - I really don't know. She is performing and ending with a turkish drop and when she does the drop her top pops up.w.: Any ideas out there for her? Thanks for any help..g.:

you might try the elastic transparent bands that are used in stockings and invisible (adhesive tape- looking...) bra straps, they stick to skin. I had a strapless bra that stuck quite well and had such a sticky tape thing in it. someone used eyelash glue... urgh...

Re: How do you make a costume top stay in place?
i've never done it to a bra myself but i've bought one from a bhuzzer that did it. on the sides of the bra she added elastic. between where the back strap begins and the cups end. i didnt think it would make a difference, until i tried on a bra of the same cut and style, that didn't have that on there. seems to make it hug your ribcage more.
also snaps have always helped me keep things in place in general, hook on one end, snaps on the other.
also, HOW is her top popping up... is it a halter? i know if i make them too tight and i dont "adjust" things it can slide up.

I had the how is it popping up question as well. It sounds as though perhaps the chest band isn't tight enough.

Toupe tape!! Topstick brand. Two-sided tape desgined for skin. Wears well through sweat and peels off fairly easily. I use it every time I perform!

Re: How do you make a costume top stay in place?
I have a costume with a tiny bit of elastic at the end, and it makes it really comfortable. I personally feel you shouldn't have to tape yourself in to a costume, but I know of dancers who do and that's fine for them. I just think that most fit issues can be fixed with a needle and thread...or it just plain doesn't fit and I'd just sell it and move on.

I have an asymetrical costume with one sleeve, and it keeps slipping off my shoulder when I'm dancing. Would toupee tape work for that as well, do you think?

Thanks for all the input - I just emailed this page to her. Who knows, maybe yet another Bhuz addict in the making.

Re: How do you make a costume top stay in place?
Thanks, Surida et al!
I'm the gal with the pop-up top! OK, let me put this in perspective. Think: Well padded bra, A cups. Get the picture? If I lift my arms and throw myself to the floor, that top goes right up my flat little chest or it shifts left-right. I think the toupe tape was the kind of thing that I was thinking of. If my graphic description gives anyone else any interesting brainstorms, I'd love to hear what has worked for you. Surida, thanks again for helping to make a new addict. I've been a Bhuz member, but clearly have not figured out how to use it. THANKS ALL!

Re: How do you make a costume top stay in place?
I don't think her bra is tight enough (bottom straps). When I was doing turkish drops on the regular bases (Fri + Sat for 2 years,) my bras never came up. And I had quite a few that I made myself and sometimes I had to go back and fix things here and there, but I always made sure my bras were tight enough (especially because they were padded, that makes it worse, in my opinion).

Make it into a halter top and double / tripple check that the chest band is tight enough. You should not be able to take a really deep breath! Also check to make sure you are not lifting yuour shoulders too much - this will pull the top up, ergo the suggestion that my make it a halter top.

Re: How do you make a costume top stay in place?
Nasila, I am going to try the toupee tape!
I also thing the chest band is not tight enough on the slipping bra. I'm barely an A cup and have enough foam rubber in my bras to qualify them as a flotation devise. I've never had mine ride up on a turkish drop (not that I do them that often), but my chest band it so tight it leaves red marks on my skin for over an hour after I take it off.

Re: How do you make a costume top stay in place?
is the toupe tape better than your average flash tape? I use that a lot (not for bellydance *yet* but for strapless tops and such for shows as a singer) and it does hold, but once the sweat starts pouring under the lights and all it starts to slip a bit - and I don't move around anywhere NEAR as much as a bellydancer (granted on a bellydance costume there would conceivably be straps and such to assist) ... but I would love to find something that works even better.
