Ideas for decorating a shamadan???
Hi!
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or tips on decorating a shamadan. Seems pretty straight-forward as far as adorning it with hanging crystals, but I thought I would ask if there were other ideas out there.......

Re: Ideas for decorating a shamadan???
I'm doing decoration on mine tonight, so I'll take photos of how it goes.
The first thing I did was to send the Shamadan to a metal person (dont know the word) and he connected steady with metal all the part, so dont have any moving. Ofcourse this way, i cant take them off, but I will keep this shamadan for places I can drive to dance, so have it in the car.

Mine:

A caution on decorating. Everything you add adds weight - and crystals aren't light. Depending on the individual Shemadan, you can also decorate to the point of overbalancing it - ask me how I know this...
I need to update this picture, this Shemadan now has much larger bobesches (wax cups) then those pictured here. Ask me why...
ETA: Remember adding hanging stuff will cause the Shemadan to feel different - hanging stuff sways and you can feel that.Last edited by zorba; 03-03-2008 at 12:52 PM.

Zorba, your did an AMAZING job, that is gorgeous!!!! My undecorated shamadan (got it from pyramid imports) is extremely light, so how can a avoid overbalancing it? Are the larger wax cups better at catching the wax? I noticed that you put fabric inside of the head piece, great idea!!!

Re: Ideas for decorating a shamadan???
Anastasia and I are talking about having acrylic shamadans made and then wired with battery operated candles. We would then add bling. BUT the thought is to add only plastic 'crystals' etc in order to keep the weight down.
This is the one way I can get over my Great Aunt Madame Betty and Shamadan issue.

Re: Ideas for decorating a shamadan???
Every type is different, but you'll know when you've gone too far! In the case of the above one, I had added cut crystal bobesches - it was too much - so I took them back off, took off the small ones seen here, and replaced them with very light weight brass ones that were quite a bit larger in diameter, but actually a bit lighter than the original small ones.
Yes, the larger bobesches help a LOT - most ready-made Shemadans already have pretty good sized ones on them already - this was a conversion from a "real" candelabrum though.
Line your crown with Dr. Scholl's "Mole Foam". Best stuff I've found for the purpose.

You know the phrase it ain't over until the Fat lady sings? the fat lady was Madame Ernestine Schuman-Heinke. She was a Wagnarian Contralto and every time I see a Shamadan I picture great Aunt Betty Singing Brumhilde! Horns and all!
