- bhuzzer. Person who uses bhuz.
- bhuzzard. A pun-filled way to say "bhuzzer".
- Crassel. A costume detail that consists of a tassel in the center front crotch area of the belt. The word is a shortened way of saying "crotch tassel". These are typically derided as an undesirable feature to have on a costume.
- Assel. This term was inspired by "crassel". It's a tassel in the center back of the costume belt. Like the crassel, it is generally considered to be an unfortunate costume design element.
- Raqs Beaver. The word "raqs" means "dance" in Arabic. This refers to doing a performance without wearing underwear while clad in a costume that exposes the undercarriage. This allows the audience to see certain body parts colloquially known as the "beaver" that the bhuz community generally agrees should not be seen on a public stage. This is an example of what not to do!
- Raqs Giblets. Another term meaning the same thing as "raqs beaver".
- Turkish Airport Special. A reference to the unattractive, poorly-made souvenir "costumes" that are marketed to tourists in Middle Eastern countries. The term is used as a warning to student dancers to avoid these cheaply-made items.
- Playing the skin mizmar. A mizmar is an Egyptian wind instrument that resembles an oboe. It is played by blowing through it and using your fingers to cover holes to produce differing sounds - this use of the fingers is known as "fingering". The term "playing the skin mizmar" has arisen to describe the type of fingering on his favorite, uh, "instrument" that an icky man may be doing while he is calling a random belly dancer on the phone and asking her inappropriate questions regarding what kind of a "show" he might be able to hire her to do.
- Bump. Occasionally, a thread will scroll off the new posts list without receiving as many answers as the person who posted it wants. Maybe they're trying to sell a costume on swap meet and they haven't found a viable buyer yet. Or, maybe they've asked for advice and haven't received as much input as they would like. So they post a new message to the thread saying "bump" which just means that they're trying to bump their thread back onto the "new posts" list in hopes of generating additional response.
- Six-week wonder. A person who, after just 6 weeks of belly dance classes, deems herself qualified to go out and either teach classes or start selling her services as a "professional" dancer.
Bhuzzisms - a guide for new bhuz members!
Over the years, long-time bhuz users have coined a number of terms. These have entered our vocabularies and become so "normal" to us that we toss them about without remembering that they're not familiar to newer bhuz members. So let's use this thread to post our bhuzzisms along with definitions for the benefit of newer members!
I'll start:

Thanks Shira! I picked up some from the context they were put in but it's nice to be in the loop. ..l;,
Was that a pun?

- LOL. Laughing out loud.
- ROFL. Rolling on the floor, laughing.
- ROFLMAO. Rolling on the floor, laughing my ass off.
- LMAO. Laughing my ass off.
- IIRC. If I recall correctly... (sometimes abbreviated to just IIR)
- ITA. In total agreement.
- PM. Private message.
- OMG. Oh my goodness!
- OP. Either "original post" or "original poster". Refers to either the original message that initiated the thread, or the person who posted it.
- TMI. Too much information. Typically used to refer to either medical symptoms, bodily functions, or boudoir behavior.
- BTW. By the way.
- OTOH. On the other hand.
- WWBD? What would bhuzzers do?
- ISO. In search of... Usually means, "I'd like to buy..." and the person is hoping a fellow bhuzzer will have one they're willing to sell. Could also means "in search of ideas".
- WTB. Wanted to buy... Same thing as "in search of"
- UBDC. Ugly belly dance costume
- OOAK. One of a kind. Generally used when selling a costume to indicate that it is a unique style rather than a mass-produced one.
- ETA. Edited to add.... If a person goes back to a message she posted earlier and adds some more comments to it, she'll often precede the added comments with this acronym to indicate that the comments were added later rather than being part of the original message.
Re: Bhuzzisms - a guide for new bhuz members!
A lot of bhuz members use common abbreviations that have grown up in the Internet and online service worlds over the decades. These aren't bhuzzisms because they weren't created here and they're used widely on the Internet, but if this is your first online experience you may still find them confusing. Here are some common ones that get used here:
And here are bhuz-specific ones:

Suzy Nippletassles - someone who hires themselves out (often for hummus or schwarma) as a dancer with little or no training under their belt.
Joyce - from The Worst Album Covers Ever fame; photoshopped into BD fabulousness by creative Bhuzzers
Coffee Table - referring to a performance that is inappropriately sexual; taken from the infamous Sadie/Katya number at Rakassa
3am Zill Brigade - angry dancers who will show up at 3am under the windows of your enemies and play finger cymbals loudly/badly.

OMG. Love these!
Oompa Loompa (very petite dancer)
Wardrobe of Justice (when a bad dancer gets called on it, in reference to the infamous YouTubage of the overtly sexual dancer who wrapped her veil around the door of a wardrobe and it fell on top of her). Who came up with this, was it Anala? Somebody else?

This is awesome because I was going to ask what Bump meant and I'm not talking about babies. What does that mean?

Oh dear... does being only 5 feet tall make me an Oompa Loompa? Well, I was voted most likely to become mayor of The Munchkin Land of Oz in school. I might as well conquer Willy Wonka as well. ..l;,

You forgot the most important one! Is it pronounced "b-uh-zz," "b-huh-zz," "b-oo-zz," or "b-hooh-zz"?

Re: Bhuzzisms - a guide for new bhuz members!
And for those who didn't see, hear about, or see snapshots from this, there was, oddly enough, a coffee table as a prop on the stage during the performance. But the event is infamous for the fact that the dancers were not only inappropriately sexual, but they also had scantily clad lads on stage with them, with whom they imitated various sexual positions and oral sex as well. I saw only some still photos and a short video clip, so I don't know what role exactly the coffee table played, other than to become a euphemism for a sleezy performance.
