Thread: Holiday Season Contests! We have a winner of our first contest!

Just for fun, Bhuz is running contests this holiday season. We have teamed up with sponsors to offer prizes like DVDs, CDs, and gift certificates.
I will be forcing a thread for only 24 hours for each contest.

Our first contest prize is a DVD of wonderful classic American bellydance, A Very Special Evening at the Plaka Featuring three west coast stars of the eighties and nineties, Alexandra King, (The Ancient Art of Belly Dance), Jenaeni Rathor (Ansuya's mother) and Diana Ferrari,(former member of Kos Kadas, San Francisco). Oh, this would sure be a wonderful DVD to own. The favourite move I often fall back on is a hip sit, kick and then a shimmy move of some sort. I don't do much solo dancing but if I am dancing here at home, that's what I do!

My favorite move is something I call the Egyptian figure 8 -- an up, forward, and down hip figure 8 layered over a torso undulation with a release through the foot.

My favorite is a maya with a level change down and a reverse undulation to get back up.

My move is the "Zaki" step! I love the versatility in speed and level changes, I just love the feel of it too!

my favorite fall back moves??
it's gotta be a maya (so many versions to play with) or the jewel

Fun! My fallback move is up figure 8's with the hips.

My fallback move is the 3/4 shimmy (incorrectly labelled or not). In other words, my motto is, "When in doubt, 3/4 shimmy!" Of course, this doesn't work for the slow, squishy stuff. In that case, my fallback move is probably up-to-down undulations with hands doing wrist circles.

My fall back dance step is typically just noodling around with my hips while at an angle to the crowd... nice juicy, flowing, hip moves driven by the music. My other favorite fall back is doing hip drops (or twists) and kicks as I lean back a bit and then forward again.

Ooh, fun! One of my favorite moves that always gets the audience excited originates with a small hip circle then moves up into a reverse undulation, ending with a little chin snap accent on the beat. Alternatively, I start on top with a regular undulation ending with a sharp little pelvic drop accent. I just have to remember not to do either of these too often or they lose the surprise element.

I'm in, but I don't know what to choose!
Right at the moment, I've been doing a lot of the cross-step, step out into side body wave
over all probably a double hip drop with a release (not quite a kick) on the second drop.

how fun!!! I wanna win! Just for grinnies, my fave fall-back move is the bedoin, also known in some circles as the hagalah, or a variation of the 3 quarter shimmy. You can travel with it, and it just looks cool! ;-)

My fall back move is the step-touch-step-touch walk with accents on the "touch" either with bellypops or hips or chest.

Love Alexandra King-I had the pleasure of taking a workshop with her and she is a great teacher.

My favorite move is a 3/4 shimmy, then a hip bump, and reverse undulation. It sounds wacky but it looks good together.

I'm gonna go with a combination, hip downs (one each side) reverse undulation chest accent.

or or or a hip circle that starts out big, then spirals up into a full spin...

Well I used to be a figure-8 on the down girl,
but now I am more of a upward-8 with a bit of an undulation and hop, modeled after a Fifi move

LOVE Alexandra King, and hers is just the style I'm exploring for a new troupe choreography so I want in!

My favorite move is almost the same as Sedonia's -- a move I call Egyptian hips, but mine is a horizontal 8 to the front with a twist-release back, with the chest leading the whole movement.

Favorite move? That's tough. Just one? Layered hip shimmies, up & fwd figure 8 hips, hip lift & drop combinations . . . see, I can't stick to just one.
