Just for fun, Bhuz is running contests this holiday season. We have teamed up with sponsors to offer prizes like DVDs, CDs, and gift certificates.
I will be forcing a thread for only 24 hours for each contest.
Our second contest prize will go to 2 winners! Each will receive an instructional DVD from Princess Farhana: Lovely Layers. The focus of this DVD is on layering your movements - teaching you how to skillfully move every part of your body simultaneously, but with fluidity, and a different speeds. Princess Farhana will guide you through the foundations for mesmerizing layering technique as well as show you how to put it all together.
You can find out more about Princess Farhana and all of her upcoming events and workshops on her website, Princess Farhana of Hollywood - Belly dancer, teacher
TO ENTER THE CONTEST: All you have to do is reply to this thread! We will randomly select the winners by drawing the page number out of a bowl and then drawing the reply number out of a bowl (2 separate drawings for 2 winners this time!) TO MAKE IT A LITTLE INTERESTING, please tell us your FAVORITE COSTUME STYLE - do you love super girly glitz and tons of fringe, or do you prefer a more modern style?
The winner of the contest will be announced on the evening of Saturday, November 12th
Good luck!

Re: Holiday Contest#2 - there will be 2 winners!!!
Ooh, good prize! I like all of the costumes (a little too much I think), but my favorite is bedlah with fringe with one and a half circle skirts with slits.

I'm in! As for costumes... I love super sparkly, blingy rhinestones, a nice noisy fringy coin bedlah, and the rich layers of ATS costuming.

Re: Holiday Contest#2 - there will be 2 winners!!!
Hello, can I play?
I am *torn* between sleek and super elegant and beswagged with fringe. However, I think a delicate sprinkling of fringe and sparkles is always a winner

Re: Holiday Contest#2 - there will be 2 winners!!!
Neat idea! I like chiffon skirts with a bedlah. The kind of skirt that flows with your movements. As for the bra - just a few strands of fringe in the centre. I like the belt to have a full fringe. The whole thing needs to be blinged out for me so that when the light hits it the right way it twinkles.

I'm in!
I like lots of costume styles, but my go-to for the past few years has been lycra skirt two-piece sets, usually ornamented with lots of glitz.

Oooh, count me in!
I'm a tribal dancer, so I love the big layered skirts and the heavy coined bras, and I'm a sucker for a turban, but I must admit, those shiny shiny bedlahs are calling me back to the sparkily side!

Re: Holiday Contest#2 - there will be 2 winners!!!
Fab contest
As for costume styles, I adore dresses with lots of lovely bling I'd love a dress with an Edwardian/mata hari blingy elegance. I also love pants style costumes, with bling. On Neons DVD Body language Of bellydance she is wearing a gorgeous pants/bra costume. Saw it on youtube so checked out the DVD cover at WDNY. I think black or red would really make it pop.

I like some fringe - but really it depends on the costume...I hate to eliminate options till I've tried them all on! :)

Re: Holiday Contest#2 - there will be 2 winners!!!
I've been digging the lace and bronze/copper looks coming out of the steampunk dance concept, but adapted for a more "traditional" Tribaret look.
Time to go designing!

Re: Holiday Contest#2 - there will be 2 winners!!!
I prefer the bra/belt with a circle skirt.... chiffon or satin, long enough to hide feet, just barely skimming the floor. Oh, and tubular or fitted (opera??) sleeves.

Hi,
I used to prefer modern egyptian design, with no fringes and simple cut, but i came back to turkish style costumes. The costumes i prefer are the ones i designed :D

What fun!
My favorite costume is old school American Caberet. The kind with coins and metal bits.
Of course, I do not own such a costume.

Re: Holiday Contest#2 - there will be 2 winners!!!
my favorite costume style??? oh... that's a tough one!!!
There's just so many to chose from, but I admit my personal style has morphed over the past decade. Right now - as I embrace a new, more "mature", re-"shaped" self awareness... I'm leaning towards a more classic cabaret style. ** think Audrey Hepburn for inspiration.
I like big full skirts (to flatter the newly aquired hips), and tops that have LOTS of sparkle.
A bit more coverage on top is nice too.
Fringe is good, if there's not too much - but you do need some for optimal stage presence.

Re: Holiday Contest#2 - there will be 2 winners!!!
We have to pick a favorite?

I love fringe, and I'm also drawn toward patterned fabrics and strong motifs. All three of those things have to be balanced against my munchkin stature, though...
Less is often more. Currently dreaming of Sohair Zaki's fringe-less bedlah with interesting neck straps and orange bodystocking...

Re: Holiday Contest#2 - there will be 2 winners!!!
My favorites are the bra/belt sets with plenty of bling. The more bling, the better. I also like whimsical costumes. I once saw a costume that was beautiful but when you looked close at it, there were little pieces of fruit on it. So cute.
