I like the good old Golden Age music pieces, or some of the modern oriental stuff like Mario Kirlis!

I love those oriental-show-opening-songs. You know, the big drama entrance music.

I love Fi Al Awel it's fun & upbeat. I also like flowing music which goes well with veil.
Stifling an urge to dance is bad for your health - it rusts your spirit and your hips.

I would love to perform to live music... I hardly ever get the chance. Also, I love Mohammed Abdel Wahab.

Honestly, if I can't sit still when hearing it, it means I HAVE to perform to it. If it calls me that much on the first listen, it NEEDS to be danced to!

Re: Holiday Contest #4 - Hadia In Performance DVD
I guess I don't exactly have a standard favorite as it changes depending on my mood--big, sweeping orchestrals; moody taxims; get-the-party-started pop. I like it all. :)

I 'm in love with the full version sung by Oum Koulthoum of Alf leila we leila. It took me a while to get into listening to a piece of music of that length, but it is a wonderful experience once you get the hang of it.

Re: Holiday Contest #4 - Hadia In Performance DVD
What music I "love" changes with my mood! In general I like fully orchestrated music and/or a nice juicy baladi if I'm dancing to canned music. If it's live music, I'm happy as long as it's Middle Eastern!
In particular, I'm now in love with the music on Lelia of Cairo's "Tarab" cd, especially Fi Yom Wa Layla and Enta Mein, but there's a wonderful Wahashtini on there too!

Soulful, emotional whether it is Egyptian, Turkish, Greek, or other. Music that is not typical or an arrangement of a classic that renews my interest. It's all good!

I too love performing to live music. There is something so organic about creating the music and the dance all together with the energy of the audience. I feel more alive, more connected with a scene like that.

Anything that gets my heart pumping!
I am partial to music with unusual time signatures - anything 9/8, 7/8, 15/16... it makes it that little more interesting!

hhhhmmmm let's see - I enjoy a lot of different types of music to perform to - I would say that I enjoy the classic egyptian music but I also like a lot of tribal fusion music. Plus, it's fun to perform to some of the newer music that's on the radio!! lol
