Ok y'all, have been going back and forth over whether a totally raw newbie like me should go to Bahaia's Oct Camparet, where Ranya is one of the amazing workshop instructors, and it sounds like it (she) is something that should not be missed! How do you know when you're ready??? I just received Ranya's "Modern Oriental" dvd but haven't yet had a chance to indulge...

Do not miss the chance to take her workshop!! I missed her workshop at Amity's (NH) in May-I had a broken arm, but I so regret it now!!

Another alternative is her Phoenix workshops. She will be there Oct 1-3, teaching 5 workshops. I've already signed up for 3 of them!!! Can hardly wait!

I'm not sure about the Oriental style, but definitely Ranya is a Baladi woman and a half. This clip of her rendition of Fatme Serhan's "Tahtil Shibbak" was great....though there is something missing in her interpretation of the words.

I love the DVD, very funny, very much full of fun and you get the sense of her ability to think out of the box with the teaching/illustrating a move technique.

Have to revive this thread, because I just took a workshop with Ranya on improvisation to taqasim, and WOW was it good. Her performance that evening blew me right out of my seat. She's an excellent teacher (with kind of a wacky sense of humor) and a fabulous performer. I wish I had the time and money to go to South Bend IN for her workshop at the end of the month. She is great!

I went to NYC a while ago and went to one of her classes.
She was really welcoming (since I just dropped in one of her classes, it wasn't a WS or anything).
She had also brought her DVD's and some CD's, so I bought those of her directly. So cool.

I hope she comes to Belgium soon...

I recently discovered her via YouTube, and fell madly in love. I just bought her Baladi DVD and plan to get the rest. I really want to take a workshop from her someday!

I just want to let you know that Ranya will be in France at the beginning of february : in Paris on feb 4, 11 and 12, and in Montpellier (hosted by myself, yay !) on february 5. France is very close to Belgium, and there are very cheap flights to Montpellier with Ryanair...

I love Ranya Renee. It's been more than a decade since I've encountered a dancer impressive enough to cause me to revise my Top Ten list. Then I bought Ranya's Baladi DVD. List revision followed immediately.
