Yasmina Ramzy! (you should have seen this one coming)

I also have a couple of performance videos and I am totally impressed. To think I had never heard her name even mentioned before a couple of months ago. This woman has been doing incredible things for bellydance in Canada and her name really needs to get out there. People just don't know what they are missing!

Her articles for the Gilded Serpent are also very well written,
I check out GS often for more by her...she makes me feel like I´m reading letters from a sweet and insightful friend with lots of humour:)

I was very very impressed by both her company and the troupes under her direction in Toronto, loved her own dance and really enjoyed her workshops. She's pretty good!

The trouble with belly dance is there are SO MANY awesome people out there in it! But none of the ones I would love to study with are HERE!

Can I make a request for consideration??? Will someone look into bringing a Russian dancer here? I know it's probably problematic but either Nour or Natalia Strelchenko or is it Maria Shoskova (name could be wrong)....We've not had the Russian dancers in the states for workshops and it would be so nice to have a "fresh" new thing.

MellyBelly, could you tell me a bit more about your experience in the pro course? What did you get most from it?

hmm, to be honest it was a while ago so the lines blur between what I learned in Pro-course and what I've learned over the last 6 years of working at Arabesque lol....

Over all it was a great learning experience, although I was a relatively new "pro" dancer at the time I took Pro-course so I feel like I would have gotten more out of it had I been a bit more experienced on the pro-scene.

I would say what I most got out of the two weeks was a better base knowledge of folklore, how to work with a live band/improv, and recognizing the importance of the dance history/past dancers. Those subjects are what I remember most.

We also learned about promotion and marketing, mounting large stage productions, and creating choreography (and other stuff, just can't remember it all!)

Its definitely a fun experience and I would recommend it :)

I'll be going to the pro course this July and agree with the comment above. For me it's like going to get your MBA. Best after some real world experience, and as I call it... my "Masters in Bellydance Administration" ;) I'm pro and dance full-time with Bellydance Soulfire. This is just the breath of inspiration I need in my life as an artist at this moment and am proud to say I will always be a life-long student of movement and dance no matter how many years I've been dancing (since I was 2!). But I will admit, it's hard for the teachers to find teachers so I am thankful for programs like these (you don't know how many times I wished Jamila Salimpour was my mom!!!)

I'll be happy to share my experience here with you when I get back!
