Re: I Do So LOVE the FLOORWORK.
Sorry. Hate floorwork. It is rarely done well and even by the dancers "over there" I find it distracting and somewhat demeaning. (Pulling on my asbestos wetsuit...)
Did anyone else notice the large number of crappy "snake arms"/arm undulations in those clips? Like, no energy, just flopping around? And since when is bellydance an acrobatic event? Sorry, just hate it...

Re: I Do So LOVE the FLOORWORK.
Demeaning? Hope that asbestos wetsuit is zipped up tight! ..l;,
I do very much love it, always have. Of course it isn't always done with art & grace like anything else, but it can be just breathtaking. I'm thinking back on some really great floorwork performances I've seen in person. Ahhh . . . Jehan Kemal. Melina. Sabrina from Massachusetts. Elena Lentini.

floor work is the dance of the shammon, very spirtual, i love doing it and teaching it, and all it stands for.

Re: I Do So LOVE the FLOORWORK.
I like floorwork (Rosette, Sabrina is GREAT!) although I dont' do it a lot due to the types of stages available...
but this montage makes it look a little freaky. Sorry to the OP, but taking it out of context with the music...it looks a little strange, even frantic sometimes. compliments to your video-editing though.

Re: I Do So LOVE the FLOORWORK.
I love floorwork. In small doses. Where appropriate. I would never do most of the things in that video-actually I was glad to see it, so I could make sure to avoid doing said things.
How I sum it up-appropriate and beautiful if used sparingly, inappropriate and tricksey at best otherwise.
Also, I really appreciate good backbends, lay back or curved. I don't like it when the arms are flying and flopping around, it distracts from the beauty, power and athleticism of the move.
Not sure what I think of the acrobatic stuff. If its your signature thing or something like that, eh. But you better be damn good and execute perfectly every time. Now the girl doing the 10,000 splits in a row, not impressed. It only takes one split really to give it that something extra.

Re: I Do So LOVE the FLOORWORK.
May I ask why that specific song? besides the feel of it being a processional...
It almost seems like a mockumentary (I have to admit, I had quite the giggle fr the first minute- especially with the topless girl ,r:; )
you do have a great talent for putting these montages together, kudos!

Re: I Do So LOVE the FLOORWORK.
Describing floor work as "provocative" and a "sensual ballet" while posting a bunch of clips of various dancers bobbing and weaving to Bolero is definitely creepy.

Re: I Do So LOVE the FLOORWORK.
I have to admit - I got a definite "ick" feeling from this.
And, as others said before, it just doesn't resonate with me when the most important aspect of Middle Eastern dance, the way a dancer interprets the music, is taken away in a dubbed montage. This practice does not do justice to this dance form the way I understand and love it.

Re: I Do So LOVE the FLOORWORK.
Can someone explain the floating woman at 5:07???
I'm sorry...I think floorwork CAN be beautiful if done well (ala Rachel Brice backbends, etc..) but some of the stuff on this montage looked more like frantic writhing around, or pseudo-porn..

Re: I Do So LOVE the FLOORWORK.
as for the comment about allowing a 'mere guy' to join the board, no prob, but ummmm, have you noticed there are a few men ON the board already? dancers?
montages are ok, if selected well and keep in context the artistry and musical interpretation,
we'd like to see a montage of some of the MEN in this form..............see if you can find vids of tarik sultan, jim boz, zorba, bandok, bert balladine, john compton, mark balahadia, mohammed shahin, and many others..............
THAT would ROCK!
the grace these men embody has long been an inspiration to us

Re: I Do So LOVE the FLOORWORK.
For those who missed it, Sorcerer541 introduced himself on Bhuz some time ago and made very clear he's a fan of the sensual aspect of the dance (what we think of as a fetishist) and not a dancer himself.
He's never pretended to be anything else. His behavior on the board has been respectful, though.

Re: I Do So LOVE the FLOORWORK.
Well, this song is famous in figure skating because Torvill & Dean (ice dancing) used it in 1984 at the Olympics and their choreography was very sensual (for ice dancing). The choreography was intense and led up to a . . . climax. .w.: Maybe there's a connection for sorcerer541?
I was giggling, too, because the music doesn't go with the moves at all and it does have a "mockumentary" feel. Especially the moving-like-an-inchworm moves.
This montage focuses way too much on what I call "personal moments" for my tastes. I think *really* good floorwork can be great, but it's very rare.

Re: I Do So LOVE the FLOORWORK.
If you catch floorwork in context, it can be okay--but the twittering and vibrating...not so much.
I don't do it--mostly because I'd get stuck on the floor.

Re: I Do So LOVE the FLOORWORK.
OK, time for my favorite floorwork story! One of my very early teachers (very pre-Ibrahim Farrah) danced at a DC area nightclub. The stage was tacky parquet wood tiles. She did floorwork one night and apparently was sweating, because when she rose dramatically, she had a parquet tile stuck to her back. She claimed that she could have pulled it off by just keeping her back to the audience, except for the fact that the music stopped because the band was laughing so hard, and the tile then fell to the floor with a clatter.

Re: I Do So LOVE the FLOORWORK.
The day bellydancers don't illicit male admiration is a sad day. Come on ladies there is a mile of difference between genuine admiration of skill and beauty and obsessive creepy behavior.(think our brave sergeant of not long ago and his competitions!). I don't think this Bhuzzer is of that ilk at all..he's a guy who likes bellydancing..hey I know a few also...they exist and some even know a bit about it.
Ah floorwork.... have only seen 2 acts I enjoyed...Freddie and her sword and Aida Nour shimmying on her bum. The rest you can leave out for me ...far too much is badly done.

Re: I Do So LOVE the FLOORWORK.
Oh my.
With the serious tone of the music I was half expecting a "voice of authority/educational films" to start lecturing me about social diseases.

Long before I was ever asked to be in an Educational Oral Hygiene Film for Japanese Elementary Schools I had a "thing"...nay...fetish...for educational films. My "whom have you exposed to syphilis?" propaganda poster lunchbox was always a conversations starter at bars.
