Randa Kamel (with pics)!!

Here are some recent photos of Randa Kamel taken at the Nile Maxim. Someone please correct if I am mistaken, but I believe she dances at three places now: back at Nile Maxim (with Ashaman); Tivoli; and Marriot (Zamelek). She uses Isis wings now!!! I have seen her with a red one and in this picture she has a lavendar one. Okay, I am going to start dancing with Isis wings ..g.: These pictures came from the blog of Lorna Gow, a Scottish dancer in Egypt. Her blog is really interesting and fun to read. She is also a sweet person and very excited about belly dance and communicating with us Western dancers! www.bellylorna.com. Do any Scottish bhuzers out there know who she is?

I think Randa shows a lot of cleavage and she has her bras propped up really high on her chest. Maybe that is what you are referring to? Its a miracle they stay in place. I don't think its breast tape, its something beyond that...I do know that Dina used to get a home-made adhesive made of mashed potatoes and that really keeps her boobs in place. But I heard that all her bras are totally soiled/stained on the inside and that the skin on her breasts is super tender/raw/sore because of the adhesive. Yikes!!

Indeed! For whatever reason, Egyptian dancers do emphasize their boobs and the designers have that in mind when they make costumes. For example, the first time I went to Amira's studio, she kept wanting to push my bra up and talking about the importance of cleavage!! ..g.:

I saw Randa a few weeks ago. Totally enjoyed her show (and a semi-private class with her) but her costumes did look too small in person--not talking about the over the top boobage. She looks like she is packing around an extra 10-15 pounds that she didn't have when she got the costumes. When I saw her she was covered with body glitter stuff--looked like her body was oiled and then glittered so maybe some of the stuff I've see body builders use??

The purple picture's not bad - you can really see the the tautness of her abs in that one. She must have really been working it when that one was taken.

The red one, though - I think she got caught at a very unflattering point during a move. Plus the costume is, IMO, hideous.

Is it just me or is Randa just a copycat of Dina. Having said that she might be coming to Oz next year and I'll be doing everything possible to go to her classes and show. Im so excited!!

I'll try to find the picture that I took of Randa in March. Rumor has it that after her pregnancy, Randa hides her stretch marks but putting on an excessive amount of glitterspray to hide the marks. The 'boobs on a shelf' look is very popular in Egypt, Soraya sports the same look. They don't move while she's dancing. I think she also had a boobjob and some other work done on her body.

I don`t like the way the belly chain cut/cinches into her waist.Neither the body glitter since it looks like she`s sweaty right just from entering.As if one needed more sweat than what one usually gets by dancing

Randa is Randa and no copy of anyone ,f:: and IMNSHO, the queen of bellydance at this present time.

Her figure is womanly and her presence warm.

Her costumes are sometimes avant-guarde but somehow never tacky and she is a total sweetheart!!!

It is hard to tell from some of the angles, which are unflattering, but I think perhaps it is the body glitter that is standing out. The glitter might look great in real life (I have not seen her dance live in over three years, and she was not wearing it then) but glitter photographs very strangely--on anyone. Don't wear it for photo shoots!

Randa is such a warm person and she's enchanting to watch on stage. She can get away with some moves that would put other dancers in the 'tacky' corner, but she does them with such style and grace! ahhh, I'm off to watch Randa movies.

Soraya was wearing those shoes for all three sets. She's really tiny, so they work well for her on stage. I'm glad to see that Randa didn't wear shoes. So wearing high heeled platform shoes is not neccesary if you want to do contemporary Caïro style!

Have to totally, 100% disagree that Randa is a Dina clone. She has her own very distinctive style - very strong, very powerful - she has an amazing presence. I'm a big fan of Dina too, but I think Randa is actually the better dancer - just my humble opinion.

As for the glitter, it shows up a lot more in pictures. Though she does work VERY hard in her shows and sweats a good bit too, of course. Personally, I'd prefer it if she ditched the glitter, but it's never put me off. And figure-wise, the woman is buff. She's built well, a strong womanly build, but a spare ounce of flab she has not. I think this is just the typical bad camera moment thing. She is truly very fit and has an eviable figure - again, in my humble opinion. ..g.:

......or is it sadly what's the matter with me... I look at Randa and I just see a gorgeous looking woman and a number one dancer and really nice person.

OK, what do you lot want ??? Some skeletal size zero with rock hard "man" made t*ts . Well b*ssocks, give me Randa with her energy and warmth over yer average over toned ( not as if Randa weren't fit enough!!) bellydance SUPERSTAR any day.

Oh give a little, gals...we don't all like our belly dancers to be sooooo perfect bodywise (I can forgive her the glitter)

And believe me , Randa does NOT dance like Dina apart from the fact she is following the trend/standard for what is called Modern Egyptian which was propbably set by Dina.

This is a sad world where you constantly knock a beautiful woman and supreme entertainer for not meeting the so called standards of the day!

But anyway thanks so much to those folks who posted those LOVELY photographs and I am sure they didn't realise how rapidly some jump to the task of picking fault with the appearance and confusion to Randa's detractors..cr.: ..cr.: ..cr.:
