So far Ive completed 2 workshops with Leila Gamal at the NRDC where I teach, and I swear I will attend every single one in the future as well. Leila is FANTASTIC. It is a sheer joy just to watch her smile. I wish there were video of her on YouTube.

Leila will be teaching a workshop in my town on Andalusian dance, and I was wondering if anyone has info on her approach to it? I know it can entail a number of techniques... this particular workshop requires a shawl.

By a remarkable coincidence, I was transferring some old videos from tape to computer today and watched one from about 15 years ago when my first wife was taking classes from Leila. The video was a troupe practice led by Leila. I'm going to be working with Leila to transfer some of her old performance videos, I'll talk to her about posting some on youtube.

I <3 Leila. She blew me away the first time I saw her in an Ibrahim Farrah workshop, and she's been astonishing me ever since. One of my all-time favorite dancers. I have lots of video from shows we were in together. Hope she posts some of those performances on youtube!

I just had a workshop with Leila Gamal over the weekend and she BLEW ME AWAY! How she can dance so powerfully, and yet look so relaxed at the same time -- WOW!

I wish she was closer to me so I could have more workshops with her, though I think a bunch of my fellow students will be going down to the Chicago area for her 4/25 fan veil workshop.

Magda sponsors Leila quite often in the south suburbs of Chicago also. We're planning to re-schedule our Bellyfest one day workshop and student show to some time in January, with Leila our featured instructor/guest performer. We'll be posting the event on Bhuz as soon as we have the deets worked out.

Leila is also teaching again this year at the Great Lakes Bellydance Convention in Ann Arbor, MI, in November. I'll be there, too! Check out The Belly Dance Divas website for more info.

Attended a wonderful Leila Gamal workshop yesterday -- a really different veil choreography. She mentioned that she is looking to have a regular class in her area, if she can find a night that won't cause conflicts. Lucky South Bend folks!

She'll be teaching at Kira's Oasis in Dayton Ohio April 10th. This will be my first workshop with her, cant wait!!!

...aaaaaand another great workshop with Leila Gamal on the 24th. She talked about fundamentals in a very interesting way, referring to the "head-tail connection" -- how the top of the head reaches away from the tailbone to give you the right posture, and how the feet must OWN the floor, no tentative steps. I love it when teachers talk seriously to students about WALKING. There are a lot of student dancers out there who seem afraid to just take a step and put weight on it. Or who can't differentiate between a step and a touch -- they are after all totally different, you can't fudge between them!

Wish I could have done the whole workshop though. Great little choreography, but my back was very annoyed with me.

ARGH!!! I am SOOO mad!

For years, Leila has been just a few short hours from me, but I didn't know who Ibrahim Farrah was, and a local teacher here was very dismissive of the "Bobby Doll" dancers, so I never pursued a workshop with her.

That sound you hear is me kicking my own butt. ,m::,m::,m::

I'll be at this workshop! It's the day before I have another 29th birthday, and I'm treating myself to a big slice of Leila Cake! ..g.: She IS beyond wonderful and I can't wait!!!!
