I LOVE Samasen ....... she is so serene and subtle ....... everyone looks happy at the wedding except the bride, 'tho ..... I'll bet she would rather be dancing, lol (arranged marriage, no doubt?)

I think it's a cultural thing - Arab brides aren't supposed to look happy or be up dancing - they are supposed to look demure. We talked a lot about this in the Arab Dance Seminar this year that focused on the traditions surrounding weddings.

Yes it´s true-in many cultures the bride is supposed to look stern and a bit sad.

My dads family is from Albania,and in the wedding the bride(nusja)have to concentrate on not being giggly(even if she is VERY happy) because the wedding symbolizes her leaving her own family for the husbands household.

Of course in these days not many albanian weddings are arranged,
but it´s a tradition to look stern and serious.

I actually were on her workshop, when she visited Finlad over decade ago. Unfortunately I was only a baby dancer, I didn't understand the opportunity AT ALL.
