Dina named worst Belly Dancer by Newsweek. WTF!!

Has anyone seen this Article in Newsweek. I found this on Egypty, an Egyptian 'news' site.

Quickly summarized, it says that Dina received the last place in Newsweek's dancer ratings.

Dina is quoted as being saddened by this. .w.:..c::.p::

The article is short, as you can see. I was searching for the Newsweek article. The article only made mention of how she has turned into a show girl. I'm gathering that it's in reference to her style. It's more sexual/sensual.

In Egypt, she took a lot of flack for her personal scandals( sex tape, court battles etcc)

I've only seen Fifi speak out and call Dina a weak dancer. This was three years ago on the tv show, Your House.

hmmm.. was it a poll of readers? Or was it Newsweek staff picks?

Who came in ahead of her?

If it's a poll, I'm wondering if newer, trendier singer/dancers are 'hotter' with the public?

If it's Newsweek editors doing the picking, the opinions of one or two people who don't care for her would carry a lot of weight. Or her reputation for skimpy costumes and sexy dancing might have hurt her, of course.

I'm only finding one article on Newsweek. They said Dina is the last dancer. As in, Egypt is getting so conservative, Dina is the last native Egyptian Belly Dancer.

I believe the author of the article on Egypty may have had an Egyptian moment. The word last in Arabic, in this context CAN mean worst. I believe that Newsweek meant it as last dancer.

At least I hope that's what they meant.

Aaaah -- there was an article like that circulating a year or so ago, maybe. It's older.. it was about the foreign dancers taking over, the more conservative climate stopping the Egyptian women from becoming dancers. Dina was definitely the main interviewee for that article.

I *think* that article would be old, though.. from several years ago, dating back to the time when foreign dancers were (on paper) being banned from working in Cairo.

You may be right. The article on Egypty was touted as being brand new and shocking. I think that's more for sensationalism's sake though.

i also can not read the article, but once again....style?. we do not care for her dance either, but it is a style thing.wish the article was in english, would like to hear their reasoning.
