Those were great! It's the first time I have ever heard of her. I thought she was a dancer but one the clips mentioned that she is not actually a professional dancer but an actress.

Yes, Monica. She's still acting. She's mainly an actress, but she had natural dance ability, so when she scored a role as a dancer, she really studied up for it. She did several movies playing the role of a Bd'er.

Her latest movie is with Khalid Abu AlNaga. It's called There's Nothing Like It It too is more musical. Although she does not BD in it.

One thing that stood out for me was how much she moved her hands in those old clips. I don't think it is distracting, but she is flipping them a lot as she moves. (I noticed this same phenomenon in an old Souheir Zaki clip, too--our tolerance for hand movements must have decreased!) It would be interesting to see how people would react if you could "Forrest Gump" her out of those videos and into a scene at a contemporary venue. I wonder how many people would be complaining about her "helicopter hands"....

I think a lot of people would complain about her hands. They seem to have a life seperate from the rest of her body. But, it also may be an indication of Western influence. A nice Egyptian lady told me that she missed the active and fluid hand movements of her native country when I asked her to point out a few differences between my style and Egyptian style after performing for a bunch of local doctors. Ok...it was a poll of one...but she is all I have! And I had worked so hard to calm down my hands, too!

I own that movie on DVD too. It has subtitles in french (and english, I guess). It's very interesting!

I just love how regal and relaxed she is. So simple & serene.

I agree about her hands, but I feel the same way about Soheir Zaki (sometimes) and Samia Gamal (most of the time). If my hands and arms duplicated theirs exactly, my teachers would rip my arms off. It's one of those 'just because Egyptians do it doesn't mean we should' things, maybe?
