She's so yummy.
Saharadessert, I've noticed most of your posts are about this dancer. Is she a friend of yours?

I have always wondered how long normally it takes for beginners to learn the art of belly dance fast and be good at it? every time at home I practice but I feel stuck with the same movements.

Lauren, I am fascinated by this dancer. As a beginner I have been cruising lots of videos, trying to discern what I like and don't like. When I find something I like I try to research further by googling and so forth, but there is not much out there on Imman, besides videos of her dancing.
So I think one thing I can identify with, is her body shape, this is exactly how I am built. I am finding some of my moves don't look like the other beginners in my class, not bad, but different. I also like the sassy attitudeness of her dancing. But being so new I cannot even say if this is good or not, I just know I like it.
Maybe this should be a new thread over in the student section, I have been thinking of starting it, but don't know yet how to get a video in a post.

I was trying to say I would like some discussion as to her style of dance (I have my thoughts but not sure) some talk about her strong points. Talk about the song "Ice Queen", who's it by, what genre is it, what is the rhythm....help me to discern what my tastes are, please......

We can do that here! To me the dancer is a lovely example of Egyptian style. Her strengths are what we call 'gooeyness', that ability to move smoothly and transition smoothly between movements. She has a large range of motion in her hips, which is always a plus, and a wonderful sense of musicality -- by that I mean I like the way she chooses to bring out melody, hit accents, etc.
Ice Queen is, I think, by Paul Dinletir. It's a very modern piece, I think of it just as 'BDSS style,' the kind of music you hear on BDSS CDs. (this track was on the first one). If I'm not mistaken, he's married to a BDSS, I think, but I can't remember which one! Wish I knew where to find more music like this, because the few great tracks of his on their collections tend to be overused.
Sorry, BDSS=Bellydance Superstars.

There's a wide range, and it depends on the teacher, the student's natural ability and musicality, whether the student has any previous dance training, how many classes a week the student takes, how many hours they practice a week, etc.
Usually a student is ready to dance with her class in level-appropriate student choreographies between 6-18 months. Sometime between 1-3 years is typical for a first solo (but still very much a student level performance, at a recital).
Becoming a professional and dancing/creating dances for the general public.... some students just aren't interested at all. Those who are, usually begin between 3-6 years into their training.
Becoming a really good dancer... whether the student goes pro or not...I dunno, what's typical folks? Some dancers start out pretty good, some will never really be great. But those who do become really good, I'd say it tends to happen around 7-10 years??
I'm at 9 years, hoping for greatness soon...
ETA: these are just very rough statements, based on what I've seen. Starting a thread in the student center to collect more opinions is a great idea!
