Suha Deeb in the News!
April 3rd and 4th 2008, the audience of the Masrah Al Madina in Hamra, Beirut were pleasantly surprised by the performance of Suha Deeb at the Musica 3 Festival hosted by Irab. She was accompanied by Sohbi Abdo and his band. Suha was also filmed by Orbit TV and CNN! She was also featured on Al-Akbar and Now Lebanon. More coming soon!

Re: Suha Deeb in the News!
I love this quote -
It sounds like a wonderful event, and I'm so happy for Suha, who has been working so hard for years to restore belly dancing's reputation in Lebanon! As the older crowd enthusiastically sang along and stood clapping for the majority of the performance, the younger and foreign attendees may have been a bit disappointed if they were not able to appreciate the performance for its pure and technical quality. For those expecting an oriental/latin/modern fusion remix with a few extra neon lights and back flips added to the mix then they best look beyond Masrah al Madinah.

Re: Suha Deeb in the News!
What a fantastic article! Thanks for sharing it, Mark.
It reminds me of reading similar things in news from Cairo, and I suspect Turkish artists may feel the same way about dance and music in Turkey.
I suppose most countries go through periods of artistic decline regularly, or the older generations often feel that the newer arts are overly exploitative/simplistic. I know it happened in the US in the 20s, 50s, 60s, 70s...

Re: Suha Deeb in the News!
The event was a great success. It was sponsored by Irab, a non profit organization which is dedicated to the preservation of authentic arabic arts. Suha recieved rave reviews from the arab press and performed before a full house both nights.
The picture in the article is from one of her rehearsals. For the show, she wore several fabulous costumes designed by Lebanese designer Roni Eid. (pictures!! pictures!! plz!)
