Virginia
this morning i've dropped virginia of at brussels airport. we had sponsored her for a few days to perform and teach.
and i LOVED it. she is an amazing amazing performer, her oriental completely blew me away. mesmerizing, funny, dramatic, sexy (or as she calls it slinky), i love her footwork/jazz steps, transitions, sense of humour and drama, interpretation of the music, and so much soul and feeling. and it's just so so good. there were only 70 people in the audience, as we only organised a small hafla (i already did two stage productions this year, that's enough!), but she managed creating such atmosphere and energy, it was magic. the fact that it was just "for us", in such an intimate setting in a really nice venue just added to the magic!
the workshop sunday sold very badly because, well, i dont know the economy, people here not knowing her yet, etc, but well, because of that there was just a small dozen of us, mostly local teachers, so she could teach at a pretty high level.... from all the workshops i sponsored myself, this is one of the few times that i got to take not one but three entire workshops myself, and learn so much stuff. i usually have to travel to get that level of workshops somewhere, and many of the workshops i sponsored before were very mixed level... so this was absolutely wonderfull. so much attention, feedback, and energy just for us.
from now on, i think i'll add a small high level workshop to all of my events!
i really hope i can get some local teachers involved to help me next time and to work together to bring her back, as i definitely want more workshops with her. and well, so should all of you!

Re: Virginia
As Artemisia said, Virginia was fantastic. I really want to study with her again, but for now I've got so many new ideas that I have to start working on them!

I couldn't agree more. I am very grateful that I've gotten to know her and her dancing. She's just amazing, I'm still in awe.
In the future I'd be happy to help out however I can, Artemisia!

I adore Virginia. You're talking about Virginia from Miami, right? She's a complete doll. My instructor was one of her first instructors, and we sponsor her just about yearly. She has taught some of my favorite workshops, and visiting her & seeing her theatre show in Miami was fantastic. She has one of the most fun dance styles...I think she's just mesmerizing!

Re: Virginia
I love Virginia too. We had her here for a weekend of workshops in 2005 maybe. It seems like too long ago. I learned so much in that weekend and would learn far more from the same workshop now, knowing what I now know. Plus she's soooooo nice.

Re: Virginia
She was indeed so awesome :) I learned many many many new things (countless obviously...) I am still mesmerized by her drum solo at the hafla! Hope there are some vids of that one!
AND she convinced me even more that I HAVE to visit Miami, she said it's so lovely! (a pity my bf wasn't there to get convinced :p)

Re: Virginia
Count me in, too. I was at her workshop in the Cincinnati area last weekend and came away totally refreshed and energized. Among other things I got out of the workshop, I've never really prioritized working with wings or sword, but she got me interested in changing that.
