Thank you, what a wonderful interview.

Suha i'm interested to know, how choreographed are your shows? Is there just a base choreography and then more improvisation or is it al choreographed?

    Hi Samar,

Thank you also for your kind comments, and sorry for the late response. My dancing is choreographed, some parts loosely - but some parts are very tightly choreographed. The music I danced to in my clip is quite complex, and my interpretation addresses both the melodic and percussive aspects of it. A dancer should know every song in her repertoire very well by heart, and that's what can make you comfortable within your choreography and able to change something spontaneously without the audience detecting this. I don't like dancing that says '1, 2, 3, 4 and CHANGE, 6, 7, 8 and ONE two three four'. I think that's a very superficial approach of interpreting the music, no matter what the genre of dance.

I agree and for myself I don't do that kind of choreographing but for my students it's more difficult. They are not familiar with the music so I have to break it down in a way that they are familiar with.

    OMG Suha,

Allah, Allah, Allah, helwa :-) Mashallah aleech. Alhin shiftich.

You are fabulous and very pretty. I wish I had your beautiful black hair. (Sigh)... maybe in the next life.

I love that you promote it as an art, because it is an art.

    Kudos to you!

    Hugs,
    Amani

I know the dancer Lana of Detroit teaches a methodology with no choreography at all, just improvisation, well at least that's what she says on her dvd, so I assume its her normal teaching methodology.

It's interesting, I wonder how students that aren't taught choreo vs. students that are taught choreo compare to each other

I honestly think that the serious students of bellydance will always get where they need to be regardless, but it would just be interesting to compare them at that level too.

    sorry for the thread hijack

Suha, I also love your hair!
