Fifi Abdou?

Hi everyone!! I'm a little new to the community, so I'm sorry if this is a topic that has already been discussed. I just wanted to know what everyone's opinion of Fifi Abdou is. I've been hearing a lot about her, and she's apparently going to have some workshops sometime in March in the Dominican Republic. Has anyone heard about this?

I love, love, love Fif Abdou. I haven't attended any of her workshops but if you want to know more about her, look on YouTube - they have plenty of her videos on there!

She has really set the mold/is the model standard, in many ways, for Egyptian Belly Dance. If you google her (her name can be spelled differently at times: Fifi Abdou, Fifi Abdo, Fifi Abdu), you will find quite a bit of info. on this "Legend" of Belly Dance.

Fifi is magnificent if you love Egyptian old-school grounded baladi style.

I've only been to one of her workshops, but I'll be honest. It was more of a Fifi fanfest than a deep learning experience. There wasn't much to pick up from being in the workshop that I hadn't already figured out about her style from watching DVDs.

I enjoyed it anyway, because I'm an enormous Fifi fangirl. I actually cried when she entered the room, and seeing her amazing presence live and in person was powerful. She's a phenomenon.

But if you're not a giant Fifi fangirl, you could be disappointed, especially if her simple, grounded style isn't what you aspire to learn. I wouldn't miss her show for anything, the chance to see her live is a gift.

Fifi is incredible! I was lucky enough to see her when I went to Egypt. She is an amazing dancer. Very powerful dancer.

She is an amazing women and I admire her a lot. BUT you won't get the fabulous hip work you see on her early Vids and DVDs.She is in her 60s, long retired from dancing in Cairo and she's not what she was.
Neither is she much of a teacher.She is a living legend though.
I went to one workshop with her recently and would not do another.

I was lucky enough to see her perform live in Cairo about 12 years ago. She was amazing. I was also lucky enough to meet her backstage and have my photo taken with her, she was just so unpretentious and warm. Shes my absolute idol in the bellydance world. I love her style and her persona.

I had to go to a workshop just to see her but no I won't do another. And I still aspire towards that hipwork - even though i just reached 60!!!!!!!!!!!!
