Ava Fleming 2 Day Workshop Review

In eight years of going to workshops ... this one was the best. I just spent 2 days with Ava in El Paso, Texas. (Thanks for the opportunity to learn, Fayruz!) I haven't even unpacked yet, but I am motivated to sit down and rave. Ava is what I call a physical genius. I have never seen anyone dance with the sheer brilliance that this woman does. I was literally moved to tears. Her technical virtuosity is matched only by her musicality and her emotional content. As an instructor, her lessons were clear, thoughtful and so very content rich. The four classes were technique driven, with no combos or choreography. I could have danced to her follow the leader style until I dropped from exhaustion. She started all of her classes with 2 songs using that method, and then asked for questions related to the subject matter of the class as it pertained to the dance we just did with her. She is fearless warm, intelligent and anyone who can afford the drive and lives within 3 states of the border of Arizona should take classes with her. If you cant do that, when she comes within reach of where you live, go take her workshops. This was a great investment.

Yes, it was worth every penny. I was only able to attend two classes, but I have so much new information to work with. She is AMAZING!

Sitting at work and still thinking about last weekend.
It was an honor to learn from Ava Fleming, last weekend. She is an amazing teacher in many ways, she breaks the moves down in a way that you get it and she is not afraid to let the students touch her so we can feel what's going on. I really enjoyed the choreography free workshops and learn more about shimmies ,layering and a lot of other interesting and helpfull information.
The show was wonderful and her performance stunning.
I hope I get the opportunity again to take classes from her.

Her workshop in NY last year was the first ever belly dance workshop I took, and so far the best one by a long shot.

Her performance that night was the best I've ever seen live (her videos really don't do her justice)! Her dancing actually did move me to tears.

She makes me really wish I lived in Arizona... I'd be a thousand times the dancer I am if I could have lessons with her every week.

I hope she comes back east soon!

I've never taken a workshop with Ava but I've seen her dance live and in person several times. I LOVE her! She has such powerful technique but she's very soft at the same time. And as someone above mentioned, her musicality is amazing. Top notch!!!

I had the same experience the first time I saw her dance in person. My husband even agreed. Just amazing....sigh

Ava will be doing a show & workshop in Plattsburgh NY (NE near Montreal, Canada) last wkend in Feb 2010.
