A student just lent me an old VHS (1992?) of a show that starred Cassandra!

I was always a fan - took her weeklong too - but what a great surprise to see her doing Turkish!

And belly dance too.

Man, she totally rocks my world!

Not surprised to see her doing it - just that the BD was IN NO WAY inferior to the Turkish! I was just such a fab surprise!

Anyway, Cassandra can't really do any wrong in my book.

It was a Rom style. I find that different in so many ways from Egyptian raqs sharqi or American Old School style that it has its own category in my head. Like saiidi or khaleegy. They are separate in their pure states but can contribute to the whole of "BD".

Plus I don't do Turkish so it seems exotic and "different" to me.

Cassandra is my new favoritist-teacher-ever and latest BD girl crush. It totally kills me that I could have studied with her during the 20 years I lived in Minneapolis, but didn't discover BD until I moved to Rochester, NY. I think she's just wonderful.

I've done several workshops with Cassandra and have been to Oasis Dance Camp North a few times with her. I took my first "big" workshop with Cassandra so she holds a special place in my dance world - she was so patient and caring. And, she is still like that when I attend workshops that she is instructing at.

When I first started dancing 8 years ago, I bought the Awards of Belly Dance (the first one on VHS, I think). didnt know nothin from nothin at the time...but her 2 performances shook me. I just knew I wanted to dance like her...didnt know why or how, but she was so different from the other dancers. So smooth, relaxed and self possessed. No sweat, no hurry, just this great control and stage presence.

I love Cassandra. She is such an inspirational dancer and a great person. I've gone to Oasis West with her twice and can't wait to go again.

I had a video critique with her that has helped me so much more than any other critique I've received.

Cassandra is my "grand-teacher." She was my first teacher's teacher. :)

She was the first workshop that I ever took, and I even own a costume that used to belong to her. :)

We are uber excited that Cassandra will be headlining at the 2011 Las Vegas Bellydance Intensive. Whoot!! On-site registration will be open at the 2010 event next week, and online registration will be open on September 15th.

Cassandra was at IBCC this year and she blew my mind. Her Khaleegy made me cry. She is a wonderful dancer, an excellent teacher and a lovely person.
