I have a total bellydance crush!

i took several of Alexej workshops at Orits festival and he is AMAZING.

i'm trying to find a video online that does him justice but havent found one yet. though he has several on youtube. but it's not the same as the life experience.

the choreographies were sublime, both technically challenging, without being to showy, and very musical, incredible good musical interpretation. sometimes unusual, which is good. different that how i heard it, but it's how is wished i'd heard the music.

he is a very funny (i like funny) teacher, his technique amazing. obviously ballet trained, but still also really oriental. incredible use of the size of the stage. energy. presence. arms. strong without being too latin.

oh, and he doesnt dance like a girl; but not macho either.
beauifull, sexy, funny, technically perfect, a lot of humour, he owned that stage. interesting combination of a serious dancer with a high level of technique and a born "performer", "entertainer".

so, huge crush here. which is strange to me. i usually dont really like male dancers all that much. this is the first one i really really want to study with, learn choreographies from etc. wanting to find out where else he's teaching, but sadly website only in russian so far.

usually i also dont like the "russian" style too much. too much ballet, everything too flash, too big. and he does all of that but somehow combines it with a lot more feeling, emotion, contents. anyway. great to watch.

at the moment i'm thinking best male dancer i've seen so far.

highlight of the eilat festival for me was him performing at the end of each workshops. basically showing us the whole dance as he meant it. mesmerising. all i could think was, wow, i want to dance like THAT.

so thank you thank you thank you Orit, bring him back next year. (פסטיבל �ילת למחול מזרחי, check it out!)

I've only seen a couple of his youttube clips, but definitely a fan. You are right about his style, not very feminine and yet sophisticated.

I love his parodies of Dina, Maria Shashkova, and Orit.
I've only seen him dance on youtube videos, but I totally agree with your descriptions.

Ditto on everything Artemisia said!!!! I think all of us have a new dance crush and Orit will have to deliver him next year, otherwise I'd have to move back to Ukraine!!!

I also have to add that I was lucky to get to know him personally a little bit, as I hosted him at our home before and after the festival. He's very sweet, modest and unpretentious, always smiling, always positive. Also, as a true professional should be, he's dedicated and hard-working, both when preparing and teaching his workshops! By the end of each workshop he was all dripping sweat, because he just wouldn't compromise and execute everything with such precision and intensity as if he's on stage.

So, to all the event organizers reading this up, host him! You wouldn't regret it, as it would be SPECTACULAR, no less!

Artemisia, you just can't compete with us, Software Engineers, we are always online and we listen to everything and anything, and then we post and repost :))))))) That and the fact that I just got off an email conversation with Orit and I knew the video is coming up even before it was on :)))))
